I am a lover of the Westie!!! i just cant find one that is sadly less than $200. I just had a baby on new years and i would really enjoy a small dog around us. I think the yorky is very cute also but prefer a westie (a lil less popular). Anyone know where i could find one?!? i live in new mexico, i am willing to drive but not across the U.S. tho :-[ i have school and baby

Here is a breeder in New Mexico:

I didn't see a price but you can gladly e-mail her and ask. If you want a dog if one of her dogs is too old to be bred, some breeders adopt them out too! So you can check with that.

I know you want a dog less expensive but you could also have a pup shipped if you find one you really like.

try; http://www.petfinder.com they ALWAYS have pups!
or ; http://www.craigslist.org .. just click on 'new mexico' then 'pets' under community! Alot of people are trying to rehome their pup/dog .. I've seen a couple of ads in my local newspaper for Westie pups! So maybe you can look in the Classifieds in your paper!

Good luck in searching! and Congrats on your new baby :]

<--------I love my westie, but I do not think you wil find a good example of the breed for under $200.00. I had a yorkie who has passed away that I loved, but I do prefer my westie to the yorkie. And, if you have a child the westie would be a better fit. My westie has never dug/digged, and for 4 months i babysitted a newborn, and my westie never snapped or tried to bite, she did lick his feet a couple times. My westie is the best dog I have ever had, the only thing she does I do not like is pull on her leash when she sees another dog she wants to play with. My westie is not all that active, if you take the dog for a walk thats fine. Although I take my dog to the dog park when ever the weather is good to play with other dogs. But, if I miss a day she is fine with just getting to go outside, and go potty.

You can find them for that price or less on petfinder but I highly recommend waiting until the baby is around six months old or older (older is better). You are way too busy with your new baby to care for a westie right now. Westies are very active dogs that require plenty of exercise and need alot of direction. The puppies will nip, not out of aggression but simply because that is how puppies experience the world. They don't have hands so they use their mouths. A newborn's skin is too delicate for that behavior. If you get an adult, it may be very well trained or it may need alot of training. It will likely need to learn what you consider proper manners around your infant. If you get an adult, make sure to ask if it is trained, housebroken, good with kids AND babies, and what its temperment and energy levels are like. Good luck finding your new Westie.

Oh, BTW, Westies DIG, DIG, DIG!!!!!

Dogs can be very expensive. There's vet bills and toys and food. Not to mention they need a lot of time at the beginning. If you have school and a baby and your finances are tight, perhaps you should wait to get a dog - or try to get one from a shelter.

Check in your classified ads. Also, you can go onto the AKC website and find breeders in your area. You might get lucky and find one that has one for your price. Good luck!

Perhaps you should wait until the baby learns to walk.
