you guys see my dad is a bit of a jerk (for example during spring break my sister and i are going to sit and do nothing) and he asks me to call him maybe once a month. his visitation rights are being taken away a little because of how bad it really is.

there's no right or wrong answer here. moms always call by nature i think their just more protective of their young. if its just a matter of forgetting call him soon as you hang up with your mom. both parents are just checking to make sure you made it home safe and on time more then anything. just be the kid with a better memory then her dad and give him a ring. its not worth the hassle of hearing him complain about it. sides if you can show a little responsibility now things will only be easier as you grow up.

It's probably not easy to remember to call someone all the time. Put a note by the door, or anywhere you will see it when you get home from school. Even have it say call mom/call dad and follow that everyday until you get in the habit of doing it. This will save alot of my fault/his fault. Then they will see that you are growing up too.

Did you have an agreement that you would call after school? If you did then you are obviously at fault, but if not then really neither of you are at fault. You should get into the habit of calling him after your conversation with your mom though or talk to him and set a time for him to call daily. Unless you come to an agreement of who is going to call at what time this situation will arise on several occasions.

You should call him, he is not in your home and does not know whether you have something to do after school or not. Try to understand that your father is just trying to be there for you, and it probably hurts him that you don't think to call him. After all you are in High school. And since he is only asking that you call "sometimes" they may be times that he is free to take you out or just talk to you for a bit. SO the next time he asks, write yourself a note and pin it on the refridgerator (judging by my 14 YO that is the first place you would go after school) just to remind yourself to call your old man.

typically HS'ers have brain fade as soon as they walk in the door. It's not unreasonable for your dad to want a call. Since he hasn't been involved in your life much, he doesn't know your schedule and probably isn't sure when you get home.
You are most likely heading right to the fridge when you get home... put a note on it, or on your computer.. where ever you go when you get home.....CALL DAD!!!
That should do it!!

It's both your fault you both need to make the time maybe instead of everyday make it once a week. Swap who calls who each week/day. Be mature about it and talk to him as if he was a business partner! It works believe me!

Its your job to let them know that you are home. Its nice of your mom to take more responsibility than your dad but i call them after im out of school no matter who picks me up or whom im going home with.

Both... He's the parent and he should call to see if your fine... If you don't see that he calls then common sense says call... something might be wrong. you never know!
