Please suggest a car that will accommodate two people and four cat carriers. I'm new to suburbs that may require flood-evacuation; that's why the need to fit four carriers. Prior to this relocation, I walked everywhere, using our sub-compact only on weekends for errands. I know that whatever I buy will seem huge compared to the one we now have. Please resist recommending something too big for our needs. Thanks!

a subaru, like a legacy, or a wagon like an outback, they are really good cars, my freind has a 1995, never needed a major repair and almost 300,000 miles and seven owners. also saturns are good, i had a 93, over 333,000 miles only died in a crash and was still running good. once again, never a major repair. a rav-4 by toyota is good, theyre little, but theyre cute, and i dont know terribly much about them. hope these help!! good luck! :)

You'll need something with high clearance like an SUV or a truck.

Honda Pilot
Toyota Tundra
Toyota 4-Runner
Nissan Titan
Nissan Pathfinder

A crossover vehicle sounds perfect for you, something like a Dodge Nitro, or Jeep Compass, or even a Subaru Forrester.

Buy a used 4-Runner, From Toyota. They run forever, plus, if you get the aircleaner attachment, mount it on the side of your windshield, You could evacuate in water 5 ft. deep!!, and laugh at everyone who doesn't have a Toyota w/off-road aircleaner kit.

Use your sub-compact as a reference point. Something similar but with higher ground clearance.

You can go for hatchback/wagon, such as Jetta Wagon, Focus Wagon etc

or

You can go for small SUV, such as CR-V, RAV4, Grand Vitara etc

New or used depend on your budget.

The Honda FIT is the perfect car for you. It's reliable, small, and very roomy. Also it isn't expensive. The folding rear seats will easily accomodate pets & their carriers.

Good Luck.

Anything but chrystler products. Their quality is poor at best and their engines often die or need major repair at relatively low milage.
