To be honest, I think people on both camps will give you the thumbs down if it disagrees with what the think.

Christians are more likely to do it, because anything that disagrees on an aspect of religion, ultimately disagrees with their view of their religion. You're going to get stronger reactions.

To get one from an atheist, we need to feel you've either missed the point or your arguement is flawed.

Because people are quite careful in articulating their answers on here, you are more likely (especially on the religion section) to tred on the toes of theists, rather than atheists.

Because much of what they defend is indefensible for example the myths of Noah's Ark and Creationism. The evidence to the contrary makes them very defensive and any thing to the slightest that questions their "faith" makes them strike back due to their insecurity. For example, a neighbor and their child were visiting and their child was looking at my fossil collection. I was answering questions when the mother went nutso. I got a call from her husband asking why I was trying to "pollute" their daughter's mind with all that evolution stuff. Now where is the love, and is this not what Christianity is supposed to be about? They have lost their way. Truth be told, religion is a business and every business needs consumers. These churches are after the same thing Ford and Kodak are after, money. I am really off the point here. These people are very defensive because they are insecure - the truth can do that.

Well, if you are a christian you believe in the trinity. It comes with the territory. As for the thumbs up/down, I give either one if I agree or disagree with an answer, not because I want to attack a person. That is far from me. More often than not I don't vote at all. Sometimes I don't even need to agree/disagree, I simply like an answer. I usually give thumbs down for perverded answers that would insult anyone.

OK. You're a Christian, and it is bothering you that someone would judge you and say you'll burn in Hell.

Don't you believe that you're going to Heaven? Does that not mean that you also believe that the ones who don't go to Heaven are going to Hell? That's judging them.

Do you understand that this belief is what Christianity is all about, and that people like me find that repulsive?

You know...there was a day when I was embarrassed to be a Christian, and that's why I'm not one anymore.

Truth...I get them too with trinity questions...I have no way of knowing if the person who gives them is a Christian or atheist. They used to send me messages but I got another bad one yesterday, so I had to close down the messages again. I have stopped answering any trinity questions now.

They're not being mean, they didn't report you, they just disagree with your answer.

That's what the thumbs down is all about.

Alot of times I don't bother answering a question if someone has already given the answer I would have given, I just give that answer a thumbs up and the answers I disagree with a thumbs down.

You need to get a thicker skin sweet-cakes.

Ignore the thumb votes one way or the other. They are not a valid reflection on the asker or the answerer, but merely the reflection of the person clicking the mouse button.

Discussions of R&S need to be focused upon substantive matters of the genuinely sincere. Focus your efforts on those items and ignore everything else.

Why would someone giving you a thumbs down make you embarrassed to be Christian? What does someone's opinion of you have to do with your faith?

I'm Wiccan. I don't give two shakes to what others think about what I believe. Everyone is an individual and allowed to opinions about anything.

It shouldn't affect your pride in your beliefs. If it does affect how you feel....re-evaluate yourself. Maybe, what you've been taught is not really what you believe. It is your journey...don't be led through it...blaze your own trail.

Some people just like to give thumbs down. I answered a question in a very nice way yesterday about getting along with everyone and got a freaking thumbs down! I was being NICE. Just let it roll off your back. You have the same right as anyone to answer.

Christians are notorious for arguing amongst each other about what interpretations are correct.

I would implore you to examine why your god would make things so woefully unclear if he wants people to believe in him.

Don't let the thumbs down dissuade you... I actually think it's kinda cute when I get them. Means you made someone think... what they thought is another matter, of course - but at least you made them think.

*Edit - I went to read your answer. You were not asking for a thumbs down in my opinion until you said, "Trinity is Idolatry."

At that point, someone who believes in the Trinity would feel as though you are calling their beliefs sinful, and would be offended.

I'm not saying you shouldn't say that. I know I say things that offend people.

What I'm saying is that if you choose to say what you really think, be prepared for others to be offended and to display that in the thumbs down feature.
