i hear 2 questions: 1) why do people lie about the reason they are breaking up with someone? first thing that comes to mind: they are afraid to hurt the other person (even though he/she will end up knowing and the pain will be even more brutal... ). the other reason is that he/she does not have the guts to tell the truth (afraid of how his/her ex is going to react, afraid to feel guilty, ). sometimes, people lie about these things for other reasons but i would think that most do it to avoid causing pain (well, to feel less guilty about it at least)

2) question: why would u go out and be with other people if you want to figure out what you want? I don't know where this really fits but it sounds to me that the person who mentioned this to his/her ex has simply fallen out of love for her/him. usually, not knowing what u want is an excuse to get out of the relationship. but at times it is true. Also, it makes perfect sense to say something like that. since you do not know what you want, then you will be with other people searching for it. For a relationship to work, doubt cannot be part of it. For a couple to live their love, there is no other way but to "know" that in spite of their partner's weaknesses, they are certain about their love.

maybe these new people are part of the world like everything else and after he or she has explored or figured out that they dont have alot of things in common than he or she will move on

They're jus trying to break up with you without hurting you. Think about it...would you be hurt more or less if they said "Hey, I'm breaking up with you because I found someone else." See...it's less devistating when they say "I need to explore the world." Good luck in finding "the one"!

It is human nature to not want to hurt someone you have been with so you soften the blow by telling a little white lie. Most people know what it means when someone says that. Sorry.

maybe the new person is part of their "exploration" lol! Usually there is a reason the person wants to break up ...they just aren't mature enough to lay the real reasons out on the table.

its just an excuse people use to get rid of the one they are with to be free to be with the one they want. just a cop out, to avoid confrontation with the one they left and broke her heart. they don't want to be truthful, and say they found someone new to love, just in case they want to come back one day and be with that person again. just a cowards way out of it.

Because it is easier and more cordial to say something nice rather than tell the truth.
Such as, "I'm not that into you" or "I'm tired of you."
The truth can be a b*tch.
