My son just got promoted into a new class at his preschool. In this class the kids get to take their own lunches out to the lunch tables and eat, but because I usually pack something that needs heating first or needs to stay cool, his lunchbox is usually empty and he feels left out having to wait for the teachers to bring him something seperately. Are there any foods (other than a standard PB & J of course) anyone can recommend that dont need to be kept chilled but that a toddler would still eat?

how about making pb and J but use a rolling pin on the bread to make it flatter and then roll the bread up into pin wheels. or veggies and dip. if he has stuff that needs to stay cold try freezing his juice box or a bottle of water and then pack it into his lunch to keep the rest of his food cold. make him mini wraps with lunch meat and cheese using tortillas or chcicken salad of he likes it.

I am a Preschool teacher and my school has lunch for the children who stay in the afternoon. Many children put a coldpack in their lunchbox the night before and allow it to sit in the fridge to keep the lunch nice and cool all morning on the cubbie hook. That way your son can have a hot thermos filled with noodles, etc and have cool fruit for a snack.
The Horizon Milk boxes sold for lunchboxes don't need to be chilled. Good luck.

At the beginning of the school year I bought my 7-year-old son one of those sturdy Thermos containers that holds about 8 or 10 ounces. Best investment I ever made: About 4 days out of 5 he brings hot soup to school for lunch--he loves it, it's healthy and warming, and he has fun sinking those little oyster crackers in it. If your little one likes soup, this could be the answer. (It will also hold things like reheated pasta or stew at the proper temperature.) Good luck.

You could try maybe putting cheese or cheese whiz in a pita bread (i loved that when i was a kid),
or try spreading peanut butter on a hotdog bun and putting a pealed banana in it, it will be like a peanut butter and banana sandwich but funner
or maybe try making a plain pb & j or cheese sandwich, but cut them in thin strips or funny shapes (you can use a cookie cutter)
or try spreading peanut butter and jam on a pita (or something like it) the cut up fruit and put it on top and it looks like a mini pizza, also try searching the web there are a million good ideas there good luck!:-)

I know you can buy these things at the grocerey store called "lunchables" they tast really good and they dont require keeping cool. He can make his own pizza, chicken nuggets, hamburger, hot dog...the list goes on! You should check em out.
