I sent in my state and federal tax. I got my state refund but not my federal just yet.but I know it takes longer.
If I were to get my federal refund back, can the government still audit me in the future?

What is the chance of them even noticing that I have mistakes. The thing is I have foreign income, 3 w-2's, college, bank interest, capial losses (-$15,000). I also claimes my personal vehicle as business because I used it for a month while I had to trvel for work. Would that be legit? The thing is I never falsified any dates or any amounts. I did Turbo Tax and I couldnt delete the foreign income page so I said F it, and sent it in anyways hoping they wont notice.

They can audit ANY return for up to 3 years after the original due date or the date the return was filed, whichever is later. If they are alleging fraud, their is NO statute of limitations. Nearly EVERY audit occurs after issuing the refund originally claimed. The vast majority of refunds are issued before the IRS even begins selecting returns for audit.

If you claimed the foreign income exclusion and don't meet the time requirements, then the income isn't excludable. The auditor would make the adjustment during the audit and you would owe tax plus penalties and interest.

Why not amend the tax return now and pay what you owe before April 15th? You could avoid an audit (assuming that the foreign earned income exclusion is the only issue) and avoid having to pay interest and penalties.

Yes, the send back the refund without going over the return excect to look for math errors. Later on the computers analyze returns for possible audits. Normally an audit will come toward the end of the year.

Yes they can, up until the statute of limitations runs out. 3-7 years depending on the circumstances.
