So, the skins renewal cycle is about 28-32 days. Because of all of the other elements in our life such as stress, environment, alcohol, smoking, lack of sleep etc., our skin cycle is extedend anywhere from 2-10 days. This is when you should start to see healthier, fresher looking skin come through.
While I've never tried proactive, the most important thing is to develop a consistant and good skin care regimen. Here is what I recommend. Oh, and don't be too hastey. Some products will make you break out in the first 10-15 days depending on your skin. If you can wait it out, you should really start to see some amazing results in 45 days.
Regimen:
1) Cleanse - Easy. Never use soap. Buy a product that is a mild cleanser. Soap can over dry skin even if it has 1/4 mosturizing cream ;)
2) Tone - You should buy a toner. There is not too much technology when it comes to toner. Just make sure that your product doesn't have alcohol. Toner restores the pH in your skin and prepares it for treatment products.
3) Treat - You should try to buy some kind of serum and try not to over moisturize. My pick, after using a ton of different products is Olay regenerist althoug I've heard that the definitive line, which is new, is amazing. This is where you should spend the majority of your money. The most technology can be found in this realm.
4) Always use sunblock but look for a full specturm sun block. Meaning blocks UVA and UVB rays. UVA = The damage you see the next day and is superficial. UVB = The rays that get through the lower layers of your skin and cause wrinkles and blemishes later on in life. REcomendation: Aquavedic (derm offices and $
34) or DDF ($28).
You should do step 1-4 every morning and 1-3 every night.
I hope this helps!
You'll see a visible difference in your skin if you do these. Oh, and if you would like recommendations for a cleanser and toner just let me know. I know several that are very good and fairly inexpensive.

For some people yes, for others it doesn't. I tried it and it actually made my face severely inflamed, and my acne has been worse ever since (yes I stopped using it). If you are really worried about what to use, talk to your doctor. He/She will probably recommend over-the-counter stuff to try or he/she may write you a prescription. Keep in mind that it may take a few tries to find out what works best for your skin. Drink a lot of water, and do not eat a lot of greasy foods. There are people, even doctors, that swear that diet has no effect on the skin. I don't buy it. I know from experience that I have less breakouts when my diet consists of water and non-greasy foods.
Also as a side note: If you do try proactive and it works. It doesn't mean it will always work for you. I've heard many say it worked for them for about a year or two, and then it didn't.

I tried ProActive and for the first two weeks, I noticed my skin getting clearer. Then all of the sudden, I started breaking out really bad and I had dry patchy skin. I never used it again. I have been using Biore pore minimizing products. It's gentle enough for my skin. That's the best thing so far that has made my skin clear!

Proactive worked for me for a short period of time...kinda like the other answer above. But after a few weeks, I suddenly started having really large, almost mountainous blemishes around the perimeter of my face-- the lower cheek and chin areas. I thought it was an allergic reaction and I called Proactiv and they told me it was normal and I should keep using it.
I couldn't bring myself to keep using it because the problem was getting worse, so I sent back the unused portion and got my money back. Now I use St. Ives exfoliation skin cleanser. It's great...and months into it I have clearer skin and no side effects.

It does work for some people but it might not work for you. People have different skin types.
Note: While Proactiv products are not bad, some of their offers are legally binding. Make sure you read the fine print before trying them.

It works but you have to keep using it. I have been using it for about 2 years and I like the way it makes my skin feel. It took a few days to see it start working and about a month until my skin was totally clear.
I would try it.

Some people it has worked really well for and some it hasn't. For me, it did not work. I tried it as a last resort before I went to the doctor for Accutane. I am in the middle of course with Accutane, and my skin feels and looks great! It's like I never had acne before!....minus a few acne scars, but I plan to have dermabrasion done a few monthes after I'm finished with Accutane. Maybe it will work for you???!!!

Yes it is actually. I use it every Day, twice a day. It will take up to 1 or 2 weeks to work. I used it and it cleared up in a week and a half.

This is better: Arbonne has a proven acne product called Beyond Basics Clear Advantage. It's all natural, no harsh chemicals, and not tested on animals. It was tested on humans.

It is an ok product. It works differently on everyone but bottom line it has too much alcohol and dryes up your skin. You can try a similar product that is botanical based. I can give you more info.
