We can't afford to have dancing at our reception and we are not throwing the bouquet or garter belt, because all or our guest are married or have singinficat others. We are serving a sit down dinner and wedding cake and having the toast. What are some of the other ideas that we could do for our reception. We are having about 50 guest total... Any Suggestions? Plus our reception is in a small Greek Restuarant in the banquet room.

You really don't need a lot of activities to have an enjoyable reception, especially in an intimate atmosphere. I would recommend you have background music play during the evening while your guests enjoy their meal and conversation. In addition to your toast, you can still have a cake cutting, greet each table personally (this is a great way to thank your guests and take pictures with everyone) and maybe dedicate your bouquet to a special family member (mother, grandmother, aunt) or to the couple that has been married the longest. We had an intimate wedding reception similar in size. For our reception we just played music during dinner, had toasts, cake cutting, greeted tables, and a bouquet dedication. Everyone had a great time. Since there was no dancing we just ended our reception after everyone had a chance to talk, eat, take pictures, and mingle. We had about 60 guests and our reception was around 2 1/2 - 3 hours long (just enough so everyone wasn't rushed, but not too long for people to get bored). But if you would like additional activities maybe hire dancers or singers that represent your cultural heritage or Greek culture since your reception is at a Greek restaurant. Other than that, I don't think you need to do much else.

My wedding is in less then a week and we planned it in like 4 weeks. We too are having 50 people including myself my fiance and our 8 mo. son.

We also are having budget issues...we are not hiring a DJ or getting a dance floor...but instead we are bring our own stereo and burning some mixed CD's...we are still picking songs out for "first dance, father daughter, mother son, and cake cutting" and others for dance in between...just having my sisters fiance doing the "dj" part on our boom box. We bought some CDs that are all wedding favorites...also a classical piano cd for the dinner or cocktail hour. Jazz and Swing music too.

The room we are getting is small about 23' x 48'. We are having a buffet/sit down.

Also im not doing bouquet or garter throwing. Like you said everyone pretty much is in a couple...that's what happens when it's a small reception you invite the people closets to you. We actually are only having 25 people MAX at the actual ceremony in a garden.( I live in FL it's 80 degrees today). Good luck!

It doesn't sound like you need to do anything else. It sounds really nice as it is actually. Everyone will eat and mingle and have a good time. Perhaps the restaurant can play some nice music over the PA system and you and your guests can dance a little to that (if there is room to dance). I think you've done well, I wouldn't worry about doing anything more. Congrats.

You may want to present your bouquet to the couple who has been married the longest I saw that done and it was a nice idea. You could hire some sort of entertainment for the evening like a theatre troop or comedian. I was thinking a psychic could be fun to tell peoples fortunes and a cartoon artist to draw pics they can take home. I have heard of some people hiring belly dancers to perform but, I wasn't very impressed with this.Or you could make a game of bride and groom trivia where the winning table gets a bottle of wine. Karaoke if you don't fear for your ears. Locally we have a guy who is a one man band who does Music trivia he plays a bit of a song and you have to guess what it is it goes over very well.

One thing that I think would be a fun and great keepsakes, is to provide a disposable camera with flash for each table with instructions for the table occupants to take pictures of each other at their table. Instruct them to take family pictures, candid shots, even pictures of their food and whatever they think you would enjoy and share for years to come. Have them describe on a form that you have provided for each table each shot they take and who was in the shot or what it was. Then have someone be responsible for taking up each camera and devising a system to record each list with each camera so they will match after you get them developed. It would be interesting to see your reception from the guest's views and you would have pictures of the restaurant, food and all your friends and loved ones enjoying themselves.

Play games, twister, (who ever wins get the Bride's bouquet) deal or no deal, (the best man could be Howey), musical chairs (free drink or bottle of wine for the winner). Just make it fun. Games aren't just for little kids. Adults can have fun too.
Happy Wedding to you.

If you have an Ipod or MP3 player (or can borrow one) and speakers you dont have to hire a DJ. Just have some playlists ready and press play! I'm sure you can borrow CD's from family and friends to download music.
