If Dan Brown came up with the conspiracy theory, then it can hardly be true.
Consider this: if there exists a group of men and women who, throughout the centuries, has believed that Jesus married and fathered progeny, that does not make it so. It only confirms their belief as such.
The Rosicrucians, Knights Templar, Illuminati, and other groups have been talked about, debated, and conspiratized into forms that are scarcely recognizeable from their historical manifestations (Illuminati, in particular, have left no solid evidence that they even existed outside of a group of men in Britain in the 1600s who felt like pulling a few pranks). Consider it a Dread Pirate Roberts scenario at best, and fanciful musings at worst.
Dan Brown is an excellent author (I read the last 20-some chapter of Da Vinci Code in one sitting) but a terrible source for anything but fiction and storytelling.

Dan Brown DID NOT come up with the conspiracy theory regarding what he wrote about in his fictional novel "The Da Vinci Code". This is a very, very old theory which dates back far before Dan Brown's (and our) time. Dan Brown based most of his research on a Non-fiction book by the name of "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" which ecplores the factual ideas behind the theory discussed in Dan Brown's novel. Dan Brown did not come up with this idea, he simply used it as the basis for a plot. There are facts behind what he used, and some he elaborated on. This is what a good author does. Dan Brown never claimed that the theories discussed in his novel were true, and he never claimed to have come up with them. In his novel, he even discusses the book "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" and sites it as a source for his research on the subject.

Even Dan Brown himself claims it is just the product of his wild imaginations. It is up to you to believe it or not. Most of his works in that book however are product of extensive research on the subject and like the normal archeologists or peleontologists, they are able to make stories about the existence of the Dinosaurs and their lives and fate through research but it does not mean it exactly happened that way. They still have to discover further ( as revelations about them continues to be found) before they could claim it to be completely true.

Few conspiracy theories are actually true...though they may contain a grain of truth which is what makes them believable for some people. Research people, research FIRST before you decide what you believe.

Why do people read a novel, a piece of fiction, and find it to be a book of reality. Why not do some books that are on the shelves in a library that are reality based and learn the truth about religion and history, not read what is on the best seller list and take that as reality.

No. It's not.
The two books Brown got his info from are still available. You might want to read them. You can see where they took some flying leaps to bad conclusions.
Holy Blood Holy Grail and Messianic Legacy.
Someone should have told Brown we (Catholics) have Mary Magdalen's relics as well as the Grail.

Dan Brown's books are sold in the fiction section of bookstores. What does that tell you?

No proof and it's not even a "theory."
The book was fiction. Didn't you read the first page?
