This is for a report I'm doing in school. Be sure to provide your age and the age of the sufferer(s). If you know more than one sufferer of an eating disorder, please tell me how many people you know.

Thanks!

I went to school with a girl that had bulimia starting at the end of 9th grade--by the beginning of 10th, she was going to inpatient treatment. She stayed until 3rd quarter, and came back looking and acting great--by the end of the year, she was back in. 11th grade was the same cycle with her-she would lose it so quickly, too. Anyway, our senior year, she was doing wonderful the whole year without any stints in rehab-haven't seen her since, but will never forget seeing what turmoil she put herself through. (PS-ages were 14-18 if you haven't guessed by now! And we graduated in 2000). I think you would benefit from watching the documentary Thin-not sure if it is HBO or Showtime, but an excellent portrayal of what they are going through.

My niece has an eating disorder. She is now 11 and she has had an eating disorder since she was around 8 or 9. The scary thing about eating disorders is that it usually is a result of something else the person is dealing with.

Myself, shamefully. I suffer from anorexia/bulimia. I have a phobia of becoming fat. I have had this problem for over 10 years. It is very disturbing and related to men shaming women for being even 1 pound overweight. If I gain a pound, I starve until I lose 2 pounds. It is horrible.

Since I have been anorexic for nearly 20 years, I have unfortunately surrounded myself with other eating disordered friends. They have ranged in age from 9 to 54. I met the younger girls in treatment centers so please don't think I was supporting a child in being ill.
