Last visit to my dentist told me my gums are receding. This is due my brushing technique. I have one tooth with part of the root exposed. Will my gums recover in that area?

The answer is no, they don't grow back. They can be surgically repaired though. You can do your self a great deal of good by switching techniques and using a soft tooth brush. Hope I've been of some help and good luck!

Why didn't you ask your dentist? I always ask my dentist all types of scientific and technical questions, and he seems to love it!

If there was a problem with your exposed root, I'm sure they would have taken action to protect it.

I have a family history of peridontis, and some of my relatives have lost their teeth at the age of 30 due to bad gums. The trick is to floss 2 - 3 times per day, and amazingly enough, use Listerine. Both of my parents were reaching stages where their gums were receeding - my father had to have his gums physically pulled back and cleaned - very painful. They both have healthy mouths now, decades later, just through extensive flossing and Listerine twice per day. (Btw - the listerine is not just an old wive's tale - it has been backed up by dental hygenists as well.)

well, not too much. if the gum was damaged and pulled back from the tooth, if it is allowed to heal, it may come back some toward the tooth. but, if it causes you too much pain, you should get a bonding there.

i recommend a biologic toothpaste and an ionic toothbrush

You need to get a softer tooth brush and don't scrub so hard. Yes over time, but you really need to take care of it. No harsh paste.

No they never grow back. Once they are gone, they are gone and you need a surgery to repair it.
