I think we should just give a wide variety of foods to OUR kids and stop blaming advertising and McD's for all our problems.

No I don't think we should stop giving them crisps etc.

If you speak to your parents and grandparents they will tell you they had crisps and treats and their generations didn't have the same problems with obesity or high cholesterol. They just didn't get them every day and their lives were active.

The problem now is that it's easier to let our kids watch tv or play the playstation instead of encouraging them to take part in sport or just running about playing.

We need to monitor our own children's diets and feed them what we think is best for them and if that includes the odd packet of crisps or bar of chocolate thats fine.

There is far too much interference into our peoples lives going on just now and a lot of scare tactics are being used. A balanced diet with all food groups is needed certainly, but the odd bit of junk food doesn't hurt.

Have you ever tried to cut something from your diet!

Then you will know you crave it more!!!!!

If you look at the healthy food pyramid you will notice it advocates everything in moderation! So allowing your children chips or crisps once a week is not going to harm them, if anything they will have a more balanced view of nutrition & know these foods are only eaten in moderation & will not make a fuss about them.

My daughter is 3 years old and gets one snack sized bag of chips for snack at school. She's very healthy and active. I give her healthy meals and in my opinion that balances it out. I don't think small children should be sitting in front of a tv eating junk food but as long as they are active a small amount of junk food is ok. I also think fast food is a bigger problem then the occasional snack of chips.

Why should they not be allowed to eat them in moderation. I handful with lunch is how they should be eaten , Not sitting down with the bag. Some common sense just needs used.

Teach them to eat slow, chewing each bite very well, and make sure they are active.

If you dont let them have them when they have a choice, they will gorge themselves on them when your not around. Children that feel the need to sneak, or hide food are at higher risk to become over weight.

I allow my children to eat such food, but Also keep healthy snacks, fruits and veggies handy and WITHOUT forcing them, 9 times out of 10 they dont chose junk.

It harms adults as much as it harms kids. We should all be told by the state what to eat and when. That way no one would be able to enjoy any cake but we'd all be miserably healthy.

I think that a little common sense is really all that's needed. Of course its wrong to raise your kids entirely on junk food but I think it's just as cruel to raise them in green hand-knits and home grown organic macrobiotic chick peas.

There are a lot of other alternatives for chips and crisps that is healthier.

If stuck, you can still buy crisps made from less salt and made from vegetables which actually, honestly, still taste of your usual crisps.

With chips, you can always just bang it in the oven instead of deep frying it.

But of course, fruits are always the best option!

i cant see how a few crisps or chips are going to hurt a child now and again, my son loves chips because we ration them! i wouldn't take away that pleasure of eating chips by the sea from him nor myself lol

every once in a while is fine..not every day!
Kids not to start eating healthy young so they don't grow up with health problems.
I tend to keep snacks like that ot f the house-result, my daughter would eat an apple or yogurt any day over chips!
