If he's fixed and still doing this, I'd say it's a case of Separation Anxiety. The dog is retaliating being left along by peeing on everything.
Try a crate when you have to leave him, also, talk to your vet about his behavior and separation anxiety.

five years old or not, this dog sounds like it needs to be crate trained. if he doesn't go in the house when you are there, and only when you leave, then he should be crated when you are not home. dogs don't like to soil their sleep area, which is what the crate becomes. it may seem like he is doing it to get back at you, but that really isn't the case. dogs don't have the mental capacity to do things out of spite or to feel guilt. sometimes it LOOKS like they feel these things, but they don't! (if they were that smart, just imagine the trouble us owners would be in!)

Pets are like young infants. Positive reinforcement.
When a pet does something bad, punish them. If they pee on the carpet, rub their nose in it and spank them. If they go to the bathroom outside ( I usually recommend going to the same place repeatedly) reward them. If you say "Good dog! Good Cupid" when they are peeing and pet them and bring them inside and give them a treat the dog will remember that and form a habit.
It really sounds like you don't bring the dog outside enough and you're spoiling it too much. If you want to see changes this needs to change. Dogs are awesome because they want your approval. They want to make you happy, but if you spoil them they'll do things out of spite when you don't spoil them when they like. Show them who's boss!

I know a few dogs that do that, its because they are angry that you have left!
-Unfortunatly for those type of dogs there is not much you can do but crate them when you are gone.
+Just set up a comfy crate, large enough for your dog to sit and lay down but do not put any water or food in there-- just a bone to keep him occupied.
*If you put food or water in there he will have to suffer and hold his pee, which wont be very fun for anyone.
**If you are going to be gone for more than 3 hours, ask a neighbour or trusted friend to let him out of his crate and let him go to the bathroom outside, then put him back into his crate.

Crate train.
P.s. The rub the dogs nose in it technique DOES NOT WORK. The dog has no idea why you're being mean to him and it will only serve to cause anxiety which will make the problem worse.

There is a product for that , you simply spray it around your home and the dog will not want to urinate there. Or you can get a hold of the Dog Whisper. Go to google and type in Dog Whisper and you will have a variety of choices to make and you can have a professional answer your questions for free. But you have to be on his show.

CRATE HIM-he may be spoiled and whine, but who cares you aren't there to hear him anyway and this way he can't pee on anything-crate training is the simpliest way to deter any unwanted behaviors, make sure the crate is large enough for him to stand up and turn around in,but not to large where he can potty and then lay elsewhere in the crate.good luck!

crate train him. When you can't watch him just leave him in the crate. It is not cruel. Some dogs need to be crated when their owners are gone. You know the dog Soccer, that starred in the Wishbone PBS series? That dog had thousands of hours of training and his owner still crated him when she was gone.

as soon as he pees, punish him so he knws hes being punished for THAT behavior. throw him in a kennel or lightly spank him so he knows that is wrong. im not saying beat him, but teach him that the behavior is wrong. you are the master, not him.
