First Off, i want to say, i'm NOT dying my hair bright solid purple. My hair is black. I jus' want to get my hair tinted purple. My friend jus' got his hair dyed. His hair is also black and it doesn't look too different. The only difference is when the light hits his hair, it looks like a purple-ish color. I have no idea what this is called but i'm gonna do to a professional to do it. Anyone can give me advice and answer unless you're telling me; Don't do it! It's crazy. Cus' i'm not gonna listen anyways. Yeahh, i'm seriously gonna do it.

The best thing I can tell you is definitely go to a stylist to do it. The colors are considered in the Red Violet family. And they look great on dark hair. as long as they keep it the same level (darkness) as your hair. Do not let them lift your hair even a shade lighter. Honestly a demi permanent color like "redken shades" (a brand of color) is the best I have found. It has no ammonia or peroxide in it. It only deposits on the hair. It will last about 6-8 weeks. That way if you do not like it or get tired of it you did not damage your hair and you do not have to worry about new growth (roots). If you end up loving it then there are ways to make it more permanent w/o damaging your hair. Hey good luck with it!!

purple looks awesome on black hair, i've had it, and you're right when the light hits it, it looks amazing, the 1st time i had it done i had to dye streaks blonde first then purple but now dyes will take on the dark, i say GO FOR IT!!

Seriously, I was doing hair for a shop in FL many years ago and I accidently dyed one of my co workers hair a lovely shade of lavender. I do not know how I did it but it was rather funny. She took it well.

I think dyein yo hair purple will rock, da reason Id neva do it t o mine is becuz of da chemicals (Im a freak about my hair) so anyways try eggplant and get yo hair shined!

I bet you it will look pretty awesome purple! It might look cool if you put some other dark colors in it like red and stuff!

i think it will look good.
the color would probably be a DARK EGGPLANT color.
but i think you should just get thin streaks of the color in your hair. so it's not all purple, but multiple streaks of eggplant!
either way im sure that it will look amazing!
