It's called allo-grooming, or something like that. It establishes and maintains bonds between cats, even if they're not from the same litter.

When you get two cats together that get along well, they will wash places that are hard to reach on themselves. Faces, ears, back of the neck. It's a great way for them to bond and also very healthy. You won't have ear problems with a multiple cat home where they wash each other.

It's a natural occurance. Cats, when they get along tend to groom each other. Is it affection, sort of. It is a good sign, better this then fighting.

my two boys ages 1 1/2 and 2 lick each other all the time then they start biting and playing.
