I am new to shooting SLRs and was wondering if I have a roll of film with some exposures already on it, and I change my lens, will it damage (expose) the film already in the camera?

The film will not be exposed when you change lenses - since the shutter is in the closed position until the shutter release button is pressed.

this will not affect the film aslong as you dont tinkle with the shutter mirror and just quickly replace the lenses. some slr cameras have a shutter protection that disables the shutter button while a lens is not present preventing from accidental exposure of film. you can change the lens as many times as you want with the film on. just try to becareful with your camera bcoz the last thing you want is your roll filled with memories and irreplacable moments getting exposed improperly.

It is safe to change lenses. SLR cameras, or single lens reflex cameras have the aperture or opening behind the lens. The shutter remains closed until you press the shutter button.
If light gets in during lens changes then you have a serious problem. and a repair job at your hands.

A camera is designed to allow you to changes lenses in mid-roll. That ability is one of the beauties of SLRs!

What's 'film'?
Never heard of it.
There's no film in a digital camera- it's called a CCD. (charge coupled device)
