Idak13 is an idiot. You are NOT a jerk for reporting your brother. Your brother is a jerk for ruining your credit. And yes, if there is no police report or anything, they won't do anything about cleaning up your credit. If you could just tell them your brother was the reason for the bad stuff on your report and they would help, everyone would say that.

Not really enough information here. If your brother used your S.S.N. to get a credit card and ran up the balance then you are the victim of identity theft which is a felony. You will need to file a police report and notify all of the credit bureaus. Do not be surprised if the police are not overly enthusiastic about prosecuting this, they do not like to get involved when it's a family member. I know because my wife's son did this to her and while the credit card company and the bureaus cleared her nobody wanted to go after the worthless son.

you can conduct an investigation through experian transunion and equifax. you should report the account as fraud. even if it is your brother you don't deserve the negative credit. that is identity theft. an investigation will never hurt your credit score. there will only be 2 outcomes, one the account will be verified or two, the account will be deleted from your credit file.
your brother should close the account. i would try and get the account deleted before anything else happens to it. i highly doubt they will prosecute unless he got into something serious. best answer here

They will require you to sign off on the fact that your card was used fraudulently. You would also have to submit a police report to get it totally removed.
Then he will have a warrent against him and it is a federal charge not a state one...... meaning a whole lot of jail or money.

I would really advise not to do it.
I don't have much use for rat stool pigeons in the first place, but to do it to your own brother you would be nothing but a slimeball. Think about it you can cause one hell of a big riff between you and your brother and also between you and the rest of your family. Why don't you try talking to him first and see if you can resolve this issue without calling in the law you scumbag
