I ran a fibromyalgia awareness day once a year and collected donations from various businesses which were raffled offf. You can also get together with your neighbors and have a garage sale, the proceeds of which go to charity. Notify your local paper so they can let everyone know what you are doing.

you can try doing door to door things but most people wont answer anyway.
try doing a car wash, bake sale, play group for kids, a dinner, a bbq, a fun day at the park for kids, etc...be creative and try to make things for families. Or have a fathers day at the park and then a mothers day at the park with their children...etc etc.
