As far as I know, according to the Bible, Mary remained a Jew until she died.

What do you mean they don't worship her?

What about "she ascended to the Heavens in body and soul"???

Is she or not seen as a deity by Catholics, same as all the saints?

Yes...but no, I think she became a Christian after her son died. She was probably an apostle.

Jesus was also a Jew until he died, as were the Apostles. The Apostles were also Christians, as was Mary. Catholics however worship no-one but almighty God. To worship anyone else would constitute idolatry, as plainly stated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

That Catholic rumor is not quite true (well, maybe in Mexico).

Most Catholics don't worship Mary, they merely acknowledge her importance. For those who DO, yes they worship a woman who was Jewish, and may or may not have been considered Christian.

I would consider anyone who believes in Christ to be Christian, so the question is did she??? If so, then she was Christian.

Catholics don't worship Mary. They honor her, consider her blessed, but don't worship her.

Worship is reserved for God.

If Catholics do worship Mary, they do so against the teachings of both the Bible and the Church.

Well... first of all, to be fair (I know... I'm boring) they don't "worship" her... the good ones strive to emulate her... see her as a "pointer" towards the creator/Jesus (a pov that is illustrated by their depictions of her, especially in icons, where she almost always is pointing to Jesus) and a "mama" figure...

However historically, nobody knows what label she tacked onto herself. Did she remain "classified as" Jewish? Or did she choose to consider herself whatever the new group was that followed Jesus?

Logically you don't go ooh and ahh at the finger pointing towards an awesome object, you ooh and ahhh at the object... right?

Some say that Mary was the first Christian because she was the first to believe in her savior, when she conceived him. On the other hand, I have no doubt she called herself Jewish.

PS - We Catholics do not worship Mary.

Venerate.

We don't worship a Jewish woman. We venerate Mary. We love her and wish to be like her. To be THAT willing to put all our trust in God.

We do worship a Jewish man though. I have a favorite t-shirt that says "My boss is a Jewish carpenter."

Catholics worship God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) alone.

We venerate Mary as being the mother of God, but she was just a human. And, like you pointed out, she was a Jewish woman of her time, not a Christian as we define the term today.

We do not worship her. She is not a deity. The saints are not deities. Get a clue.

In a sense yes she was Jewish but she obviously believed Christ was the son of God which must make her a Christian. Basically she was Jewish in the same way Jesus was Jewish
