I am taking our boys on a trip to my home land this summer and will be gone for 8 weeks. I am worried that our littlest will forget his father when we are gone he will be 17 months at the time we leave. I guess what i'm asking is how long is a childs memory at that age

Bring a picture and talk about daddy every day- that way you'll be certain he won't forget daddy. However, I think 17 months is old enough to remember daddy.

He definately should remember his father, but if you are truely afraid he will forget him, bring along some pictures and videos of his father and let him watch it everyday or put the picture where the child can see it all the time. Also make sure you talk to him about his father on a regular basis.

17 month olds hold quite a bit more memory than you think. I am sure he will remember his dad. But for some reason you are really concerned about this, take many pictures and maybe even a camcorder with you and show it to him often. I think you will ok though. Good luck.

He will remember him but maybe not immediately. Depending on the child's personality, he may be a little stand-offish or shy with his father when he sees him again. But he certainly will not forget him.

He'll remember his dad. Just make sure he gets to speak to him (if possible) and also make sure you bring a picture so that he can hold on to it.
