Okay I've been trying to go into home school for some time now, but the counselor says I can't because it full. But then my friend goes and see's if she can can go into it, and they let in no problem! I don't think it's fair. Why won't they let me in? So I was wondering is there another way into it besides going through the school? Because I think my counselor hates me! Even my mom talked to school/ counselor about it. Help? .... Also personally, I think it's because my dad works for the government and they don't wanna lose any money by letting me go. Because they make more money from kids' parents who work for the government. =/

Try to find a different school. Anyone can be home schooled as long as it is an accredited curriculum and proctored by someone in A school in the state you're in. It isn't your counselor's decision. It is a decision between you and your parents. My husband was home schooled until he was a senior. I don't know the exact nuts and bolts of it, but your current school isn't the only school that you can do this through. Also, consider why it is that you want to home school instead of staying put. Maybe the counselor has insight into that or maybe is a jerk. I don't know. Can't you speak to the principal or vice principal and get a different counselor? I did in high school. You have options. Just take a deep breath and consider all of them! Best wishes and good luck to you!****Yes it should be accredited otherwise any website can make you a diploma! Or you could make your own. The state you're in determines what "requirements" are needed to be considered a high school graduate. Requirements=Accreditation! It means the state they are in has checked the curriculums and approved them!!

Try a curriculum like k-12.com.
Or if your parents are not worried about spending money on the program, I highly recommend the American School of Correspondence. I used it for the last two years of high school. They have a general high school program and a college prep. program. They have over 70 classes to choose from. They have been around since the 1800's. I loved them! When you finish, you get an accredited diploma, so colleges do accept it, and you don't have to get a GED.

If your parents are willing then they just have to withdraw you from school and start! You are THEIR child not the states. The schools can NOT legally make you stay in school in any of the 50 states although they may try.

Check out hslda.org for requirements for your state and getting started ideas.

Homeschool Oasis has good ideas as well.

You should not have to go through the local school. Check with your state's Board of Education (or whatever it's called where you live) for the requirements. Typically, you can pick your own curriculum as long as meets the state's minimum requirements for graduation.

I'm not sure what state you'r in, but I was home schooled my whole life and I didn't do jack with the school. And you don't need any "accredited curriculum." You should check out Home School legal Defense, they're a great group.

(sorry, I didn't see the answer above me.)

I think you are talking about a specific at-home program through a school. You do NOT have to go through a school, but you also won't get any resources that way.

Check http://www.hslda.org and local homeschooling support groups to find out more information.
