It's all about capitalism and cheap labor.

Throughout the history of the United States, there has always been a "race" or class of people that have been used by business to promote cheap labor. Be it the African-Americans during the days of slavery and beyond, the Chinese that were used as a cheap source of labor to build the railways, or the Japanese that that worked in the sugar and pineapple plantations in Hawaii. Business owners look at the bottom line and will always find ways to reduce labor cost.

While it is frustrating to see this happening, it is not about the Mexican's that are crossing the border, it is not about the Indians that are coming over to "help" in the technical industries, it is only about businesses lobbying in Washington to fight to keep profits up and labor cost down.

I don't think that some people look at the "big picture". As long as we are doing nothing but fighting about Jose coming in, we aren't doing anything about the root cause.

You are so right. I've been screaming that for years. It's all about corportation's profit margin, with no thought to the erosion of the middle class.

Thanks for posting this question, can't add anymore to it, b/c you said it so well. :o)

Sorry but I disagree. BTW, there is no such thing as "illegal immigration!" You are either an ILLEGAL ALIEN CRIMINAL or you are a legal immigrant. Immigrants are here LEGALLY!.

The problem we have in this country has to do with the fact that tax payers have to pay for over 30 million criminals that are not suppose to be here! The American tax payer is getting screwed! Wages are depressed because of the illegal aliens! Children aren't being taught properly. ERs are closing. People are getting sick from diseases that had been eliminated due to vaccines.

Even if we got rid of ALL the migrant workers and paid a reasonable wage, food would not increase much (another lie of the pro-illegal crowd).

The big picture is the fact that the government want to get votes so they are catering to the pro-illegal crowd instead of listening to the will of the people. However, the people are pissed!

In your big picture, it would help to consider that if these people were not here illegally, the businesses would have to pay them more, they could unionize and sue for wage and labor violations. They would not be threatened with the "migra" for complaining about violations of labor laws.
When African Americans gained freedom, the plantations had to pay for labor and when they treated people badly, those people traveled north for better wages. Many of those plantations failed economically. That is a free market at work. Illegal aliens do not have those options. Their illegality is like slavery, they are not real market actors. When they become market actors, the big business will have to respond with better wages and conditions or risk failure.

Well, in my view it is about illegal immigration, and outsourcing and refusing to pay a living wage, which our workers can only force if they are NOT competing with the lifestyles of workers in China and Mexico, for example.

However, I agree that lobbying rules need to be totally reformed, to keep the large businesses from having a disproportionate voice in shaping the laws.

Corporate Greed! Americans want a decent salary to do any job and corporations want to pay as little as possible, so the solution is to ship the jobs overseas to find cheap labor or bring in people willing to do the job for little money.

If most immigrant jobs pay more than your salary, you need to find a new job!

Free Trade (established with NAFTA in 1975) is killing the working class. Illegals (not immigrants but criminals) pouring in is putting on the final touches. Get them out, repeal free trade and maybe the working class will have a chance.

Do you realize that "it" can be about more than one thing at a time.

It IS about criminal immigrants AND it is about the businesses that encourage them to come.

To effectively solve the problem you need to go after BOTH.
