Hold on, I need to yank my dog away from the toilet again... EWWW! Fluff, someone used it! Don't drink out of there...ARRRGGH!

I don't see anything wrong with a dog drinking out of the toilet as long as the toilet is clean and doesn't have that blue junk in it. My Shepard's ..when I had them....drank from my toilet all the time.. Even though I had fresh water for them. I think it is cooler, who knows. When my dogs aren't drinking out of it my cats are. It gets pretty bad around here when you have to get the animals out of the bathroom in order to use it. I rather have them drink out of my toilet than a dirty mud puddle in my drive way in which they do that also.
I guess if you don't want your dogs drinking from your toilet then keep the lid closed. Simple as that. So when you jump up in the middle of the night running to the bathroom and pee all over your lid you might think twice about your dog drinking out of your toilet lol.

If it is a big dog, you may not be able to. However, they say rewarding him for good behavior is the best idea. So when he drinks out of his bowl reward him. Also, my big dog likes the cooler water that the porcelin bowl of the toilet has. My solution was to buy a larger ceramic bowl and put cooler water from the tap in it. I also will put ice cubes in it sometimes to keep him interested in his water bowl or the toilet.
The simple answer is always keep the lid down. Good Luck

Is he getting the lid up on his own? If not, just get into the habit of putting the lid down after you use it. Keep the bathroom door shut.
If your dog is real smart and knows how to open the door and put the toilet lid up to get a drink, they make toilet seat locks to keep toddlers out of the toilet. You can get them at Wal-Mart and they're really inexpensive. They work just like the child safety locks made for cabinets.

Close the door,or kepp the lid down,or possibly your dog could just be thirsty and looking for something to drink,so always keep out a bowl of water!

Normally I wouldn't mind if one of our dogs drank from the toilet; the water is clean. However, we put that blue stuff in there sometimes, and there are times when we clean the bowl there is residue from the cleaner. That's why we always keep the lid closed and we discourage our dogs from going near the toilet bowl.

My first suggestion is to keep the toilet flushed and clean at all times , then keep the lid down and the door closed on all bathrooms, make sure that you have fresh clean water and plenty of it in his bowl. Call The Dog Whisper, Cesar Millan he is on the National Geographic Channel and if you go to google and type in "The Dog Whisper" You will get all of their sights and they help you for free because they use it for their show. Make it a habit to put the lid down after using it and put a sign in your bathroom requesting others to to the same. Besides it makes the bathroom look nicer.

I have caught mine doing the same, keep the lid closed as water from the toilet is cleaner & cooler thats why they go for it.

Either keep the lid down or the door to the bathroom closed-especially if you use a automatic bowl cleaner or chemicals
