Hi, What to do in Seoul. I have written out my favorite things to do. I have lived here for 5 years and know the city pretty well. However, not knowing you - not sure what you like.

1. Biwon (the secret garden) Palace. Check for tour times, it is a tour palace. If you only see one palace, THIS IS CERTAINLY IT!!!!

2. Insa dong - The traditional arts street. It is becoming more and more commercial, which i hate but there are tons of places to find soveniors to take back home, AND HAGGLE! Also, amazing tea house. I like the one with the monkey and the peacock, I know where it is but not sure of the name. If you like i can give more details later. (this street and the before mentioned palace are within a 5 minute walk of each other) Also next to insa dong is Tapgol Park, this is a small park where the declaration of independence was read.

3. Namdaemun market - Chaotic and overwhelming and worth every second you spend getting lost in it!

4. Namoel - The folk village in town at the bottom of Namsan Tower at subway stop Chungmuro. Neat little intro to traditional korean houses. It is small and takes about an hour to get all the way through but a nice stroll. The park is lovely too and houses a neat time capsule at the end.

5. NORTH KOREA - Screw touring the DMZ, GO THROUGH IT! www.gonseekorea.com offers trips to North Korea once a month. I went last month and it was AMAZING! One of the most exhilrating weekends in my LIFE!!!! Completely safe and North Korea is beathtakingly gorgeous

6. Singing room - make your korean friends take you to a 노대방, no day bang, it is your own private karaoke, they are VERY KOREAN!

7. Eat korean food.

8. Go to one of the tourist info booths and grab the book, "100 things to do in seoul" or something like that and start going through them!

You will have a great time in Seoul. Koreans are lovely people and if you allow them to help you they will. Also be nice to them, respect and admire thier culture and you will love the place.

I DO!!!!!!

Take a walk down the Cheonggyecheong (sp?) Stream. It runs for several kilometers. It's really lovely. Take the Nam San Gal-bi (sky car) to the North Seoul Tower to get a view of the city. I went right before sunset so I got some wonderful pics of day, dusk, and night. I was there for a few hours. The dioramas at the National Folk Museum are cool and the NFM is attached to one of the palaces. If you're in Seoul for Buddha's b-day you should go there. I was there last year and got lucky to go there on that day as there was a re-enactment with a king, ministers, soldiers, and other historical types. When you get to Seoul go to the Tourist Information Center (TIC) in City Hall. They have all sorts of sightseeing brochures and ideas of things to do. Plus, you can use the internet for free, for a little while anyway. Seoul is a wonderful city. You should have a great time.

Lived in Tokyo for 4 years and been to Seoul two times. i would be going to Seoul back this year. I want Seoul over Tokyo yet possibly reason I even have lived in Tokyo plenty longer. Seoul night life seems plenty greater desirable than Tokyo. Tokyo is plenty purifier than Seoul. it actual relies upon on what you're searching for. i like Korean nutrition greater desirable than eastern nutrition. i replaced into merely in the two cities in December. I went to Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Jeju Island and Seoul.

This is going to sound lame, but I promise it's not. We took this bus tour, I dont' remember what it was called, but it was a big blue bus, it might have just been seoul tours or something like that. But anyways, it wasn't like just sitting on a bus. There were lots of buses all running at the same time on the path, it went all over the city, to all of the famous places. You could get off at whatever stop you wanted, stay as long as you wanted and get back on whenever you want, you could stop at every stop or only at 2 if you wanted. We never had to wait long for another bus to come by and pick us back up, and it was fairly inexpensive. I think it was a great way to get acquainted with the city.

How about one fantastic reason?

I strongly recommend the take the DMZ tour.

This is an escorted tour to the Demilitarized Zone, that separates North from South Korea.

You will come face to face with North Koreans, who are trained from birth to hate you, and will kill you without hesitation if told to do so.

You will get goosebumps numerous times while there.

I have taken this tour previously; it's spooky !!

But, it's very informative. If you're lucky on the day you go, you might be able to stand on the North Korean side (inside) of the building which held the Armistice talks.

You will constantly have North Korean Guards stare at you with hatred in their eyes.

You might keep in mind that these North Korean Soldiers are train to kill you without hesitation, should they be told to do so.

If the opportunity presents itself, definitely purchase for yourself one of the DMZ Barbwire Plaques. These were issued on the 50th Anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War. Be sure you get one with a serial number!!

I believe they will become extremely valuable once North Korea implodes upon itself.

hi~ youve already got some good suggestions. i liked the dmz tour as someone already mentioned.

another thing to see is NANTA~ kind of like a korean version of STOMP. http://english.tour2korea.com/04Bookings/Performances/seedetails.asp?oid=12&kosm=m4_2&konum=2 is the website for that info.

if you want some a different culture experience go to a public bath house~~ it was weird at first but i ended up really enjoying the place and how relaxing it was.

insadong was mentioned and i 2nd that one too. nice street with traditional stuff to see and try.

seoul tower is a nice lookout of the whole city.

and yes, the 'no-rae-bang' singing rooms are great to go to with friends and they have a lot of english songs to sing to.

enjoy it. i loved my 5 years living there. ive been back in the states only 3 months and i miss it and my friends like crazy.
