I've had my retainer for about 3 years and I brush it like the dentist said but it's starting to look nasty. It has little black specks on it. Any suggestions on how I should clean it?

Do you have your dentist clean it? I know that when I've gone to the dentist and I inform them that I wear a retainer and night guard, they tell me I can bring both in to be cleaned.

Perhaps you can try leaving it in a cup with mouthwash?

Sometimes you just need one of those really good cleanings that the dentist does. If you're still really worried, I suggest you call your dentist and see what they say.

Just buy some denture cleaner and follow the directions, just put the retainer in warm water and throw one of the denture cleaning tablets in and leave it for a little while.

I use to scrub mine really well with a toothbrush and then soak it in a cup of water with a tablet of polident. They have some now for retainers.

you can use bleach, 1 part bleach to 10 parts water, it is perfectly safe to use or you can use efferdent or denture tabs
