I'm sure other people do it too and the security guards know that, then why do they give the people (who forgot the ID for the first time in 2 years) the same dirty look like we do it everyday?

Rules are rules...
It is the security guard's job not to let you in without your ID. If he gives you a dirty look he is probably battling with his conscience:
If he lets you in - even if he knows your face - he is braking the rules and that can get him in trouble. If he doesn't let you in he will cause you an inconvenience. So to him it's a loose-loose situation.

Probably because the security guard is thinking "You KNOW you have to have an ID to get in here; you've only been working here for -- how long? -- and you leave your ID at home? Would you leave home without putting pants on?" As far as they're concerned your ID should be at the top of your checklist before you leave the house because Heaven forbid you should ever inconvenience a security guard by leaving it at home. It's not that big of a deal, but because it disrupts their day and they like to be in control of their little sphere of influence, they give the occasional forgetters a hard time.

For you it's the first time in 2 years but the guard probably hears it 20 times a day. I forgot mine once at a club where the guard even knows my name but he pointed at a cop car across the street and said that the cop who will close down the club doesn't know my name.

If there was a lock on the door instead of a guard, and you forgot your key instead of your ID card, you wouldn't get in either. Just remember to take your card.

Because they are power hungry. They have been given the power whether to let someone in or not and they relish in this power.

If you drive, leaving your ID in your car would keep you from forgetting it. Or keep it in your purse.

I agree, the first time in two years is no reason for anyone to have a fit about it.

Probably because you could get them in serious trouble for letting you in without your ID, regardless of how well they know you. Companies that require ID to enter usually have a very STRICT policy on this.

I never forget mine.

There are rules and laws about needing an ID to enter many places.

Maybe you should paste it to your forehead, and you'll always have it w/ you.
