The largest gun the US military ever built was the 16 inch guns used on the North Carolina and Iowa class battleships in WWII. The last of these guns was manufactured in 1945, as was the last shells and powder bags.

Navy battleships have 9 16" guns that can fire a 1 ton bullet 26 miles. The biggest gun ever used in war was Hitler's 'Paris gun' which could shoot an explosive bullet 90 miles from Paris, France and hit it somewhere in the city. It was not accurate but was a real Terror weapon. The French could not hear it fire or stop it or fight against it since it was behind enemy lines. (Not sure of the bullet diameter but possibly as big as 20", maybe more.) It was hauled on railroad cars which had to be used to aim it. It could raise up (elevate) but not turn sideways. One German battleship had 18" guns (Bismark?).
