I have heard many grandmothers saying, one should not eat cold items like icecreams, or cold juices, yougurt and some fruits such as banana, orange, when they have cold, cough or fever especially kids. Is it true? does anybody follow this? Is there any scientific justifications or scientific studies which proves this? Your opinions please...

Like you said, it comes from our grandmothers - old wives tales. If you have a chest infection with congestion, it is not a good idea to eat or drink dairy products because they tend to increase the phlegm production. This is based in scientific fact. But juices and fruit are good for you when you have a cold because of their Vitamin C content. So, to a certain degree our grandmothers were right.

hmm i have never heard that before!
personally, although i have no evidence, i do not believe this.
Having a cold isnt a matter of being cold! The only reason more people catch colds in the winter is because they are mainly inside, in a closed environment, and germs are quickly and easily spread form one person to another.
bananas and oranges are extremely good for you when you have a cold, as bananas provide lots of energy and are full f vitamins, and oranges are especially good for vitamin C, helping to prevent colds!
I ma only 14, but i have never done this, nor do i believe i ever will do it, and i cure colds just as quickly as the next person!

i disagree with restricint the juice. of course it's healthier to drink it cool rather than ice cold.
as for the other items you mention, my elders always said that it was best to keep dairy products down to a minimum when you have a cold. dairy produces mucus. makes sense to me.
don't agree with restricting the bananas either. bananas are good for you.
my elders also said to feed a cold and starve a fever. eat light if you have a fever. lots of fluids are good for either to prevent dehydration. chicken soup really does help a cold.

I have heard not to eat ice cream (or any milk product) when you have a cough and cold because it creates mucus which you already have too much when you are sick. as for the fruits and juices, I have never heard of that.

Yes, it is because milk products make you have a lot more mucus. Granny was right because doctors tell you that these days too. Juice is okay, though and so is banana
Chicken soup and broths are the best for colds.

Along with creating mucus, if you are running a high temperature, milk products will 'sour' in your stomach which will cause you to be sick and vomit.

my mom would't let me eat ice cream, grapes, chocolate, or fried food when I was sick. Just because they could irritate your throat... I personally don't see anything wrong with it. Science has made it clear that it is the germs and viruses that make us sick and nothing else.
