There's a star for your collection!
I was wondering the same for my daughter too, she was born on 27-04-2005, and I think the way I'm going to go about it is to call up the nursery schools and ask them- I'm in the UK too.
I remember a once saw a question that gave a terrific link for schools in your area, so I'm going to submit this answer, then edit when I know what the link was.
I'll come back to you in a few minutes....
EDIT:
Here's the link to the website I was looking for. You will be able to find local schools, check out the ones you want and call them up to find out their cut off dates :)

They go to nursery at 3 (any age in a private nursery) think its September and April they join
then they go to school from 4
so id check your local nursery out tomorrow hun
you really shouldve had him on a waiting list from 2 hun
hope this helps
When do children start nursery?
Places in nursery are offered from the September after the child’s 3rd birthday
How do I find out about early education providers in my area?

He will start funded in April as this is the term after he turns 3.
You should enrol him now, as normally theres a waiting list. This entitles him to 5 2 and a half hour sessions a week

"Why are this type of great style of nursery ryhmes so grusome?" by way of fact they weren't initially inteded for infants. They have been person thoughts instructed to bypass on history. The characters interior the rhymes have been acutually people, often politicians, roayalty.

Where I live they can start nursey from 2 then when they reach 4/5 they go into reception class at the first school. I think you should enroll him a.s.a.p as most places take them from 3

i don't think there is a cut off I've never heard of one anyway.
ring round your local nursery's and pre-schools to see if they have places. if they have a waiting list and its a couple of months before he starts its never to late for them to start.
even if you can only get a place for 3/6 months before he stars school its a great stepping stone and you'll see a huge change in him.
good luck. hope this helps x

He should be able to start preschool this fall. Our preschool here allows children that are 3 and 4 years old.
