In the UK, break the dominance of the Treasury over the government. For decades they have been doing everything they possibly can to encourage car use and car dependency whilst undermining public transport. And why should they do that? Petrol tax and VAT that's why. The less people use their cars the less income the government gets. If cars spend hours stuck in traffic jams that's great! Pollution? The treasury doesn't give a toss......
Do I have evidence for this? Well in the USA, where fuel tax is very low, car use is very high indeed - BUT they seem happy to subsidise and invest in public transport. Indeed, many American cities have impressive modern light rail systems. In Britain they deliberately block them.

plug-in hybrids...the technology is here today and even though the electric engine is powered by dirty coal burning power plants...the net effect is still less than if you were using a regular car. Hydrogen cars still require more energy to get the fuel cell than is delivered by the fuel cell, so right now, it's worse on the environment. Government's should create rail public transportation. Rail generates much more riders than buses do and get there power from domestic sources which reduces our reliance of foreign oil. Finally, tax gas through the roof. Europe does it and as a consequence is one of the best places in the world to travel by rail...you can get anywhere. Not only are the countries connected but every major city has a rail public transportation system so you don't have to use cars in the city.

Stop driving. Not me, you. I have decided to adopt the Al Gore plan for reduced pollution thus, I will:
1) Spend at least one order of magnitude more on electricity than the national average
2) Take a limo when I need to go across town
3) Take either a private jet or fly first class when my limo is too slow
4) Pontificate to everyone else about how bad they are and what they should do to make things better

don't support noisy smelly infernal combustion manufactures, demand electric options.
electric cars are quicker, smoother, more enjoyable to drive.
eg Tesla, 0-60 4 secs, 250 miles per charge, built by Lotus Norfolk UK, (but not featured on UK motoring media who are stuck in delusions of the '70s, and corporate freebies, sponsorship & official press releases/hype)
also cheaper to run £0 UK road tax, free parking in some cities, fewer moving parts = lower maintenance, refuel at home or work.
The Phoenix 90mph SUT batteries will last 20 years, fully recyclable, and can be recharged in 10 minutes.
Overnight recharge will balance the demand which is essential for using renewable supplies, and after driving to work you can sell spare energy back to the grid when there is high demand.

Stay at home!Don`t believe the hype,it`s all down to the natural cycles of the sun that the planet is heating up.The global warming debate was instigated by Thatcher in the 80`s to kill off the use age of fossil fuels and thus stop the miners from overthrowing the conservative government.Look at your history!

What a boring world it would be..no car or to pootle everywhere at 20mph in a Ford Ka..Ahhh...nightmare.I will keep driving my Porsche...bliss.
An RAF jet flying over our house every weekend uses more fuel in 30 minutes than I do in a year...this is where the cuts should be made.

Don't worry about it,we are so small that what we do is of no consequence. The rest of the world is determined to destroy us any way . 300 million to 6 billion not a chance.

The solutions are already here for us to use. We just need to stop being so damn lazy and use these alternatives. I live two miles from my home and walk to work on nice days.
