My cat gave birth to 5 beautiful healthy kittens. We brought her and the kittens to the vet this morning because we were worried that she might have still had one inside her because we felt one more bump. Well, turns out she was all done giving birth and we were feeling food in her belly because she ate right before giving birth, which is rare.

Now, ever since we got her home from the quick vet visit, she has been getting up from her kittens, pacing, and then going to back them like she i looking for a lost kitten but they are all there! and none are still born. She only relaxes when me or my fiance goes into the room with her. Is it possible that she just wants us close by to help her out or comfort her? Has anyone had this happen before?

P.s. I'm sure there was 5 kittens, i was there for every birth and not one was still born so shes not looking for that/.

How long can the kittens be left in the bed without their mother?

And yes, I put her right back in the spot she slept in

Did you move the "nest" she created? She might just be unsure of herself if this is her first litter. Most likely, if she's not happy with the location, she'll pick them up and move them herself. All new moms are a little anxious, right??

It could be that she is in her mind protecting her kittens and when you are there feels safe and doesn't think that there is any threat to her kittens. Some cats just get antsy after giving birth after a while she will go back to normal especially when the kittens are up playing around just give her time to adjust.

She will be like this for a few more days it is all natural... she is just very paranoid about her newborns and when someone else is around she feels like she has another helping hand, as funny as that sounds. She probably will want a break from her babies soon and you can take them off of her hands while she goes outside or lounges in the sun worry free. As strange as that sounds its true, they are a lot like human mothers!

what is it you placed under her when you returned her to your home??? did you return her to where she put the kittens?? sahe may be looking for the vet--as an intruder into her little world with her kittens---return her to where she placed the kittens before you took her and them to a strange place. let her figger out where she wants tp keep the family safe. could be under the house or in your bed--let her figure it out.
there are so many little things we do not think about regarding her anxiety---but she worries about intruders and safety of her kittens and feeding them and keeping them warm. and things we do not think about.
good luck -- she will let you know soon.--but it is probably that she is looking for the vet as an intruder.

some new mothers dont want human company.. others do.
its possible that her restlessness might also hint that she might want to find another place to take her kittens to nurse them. pershaps she's not all that happy where she's at.
just let her move them if she wants. dont help her with that. and unless its in the middle of your bed or something like that, dont move them once she's chosen the spot.

She probably just wants you around for comfort if this is her first time in being a mum- she knows you care for her well so she is relying on you to help her out now she is a mummy!. Good luck!
