US AIR FORCE! HOO HA! ASVAB score will make all the difference to what MOS you can apply for. My son got a 92 on his. He left for bootcamp Dec 5, 2005. In May 2005 he graduated his tech school as a distinguished graduate. He got the job he dreamed of & the base he wanted. Now he has top secret security clearance & he absolutely loves his coworkers, Flight Chief & job!
My step son has just taken his AVSAB & he got a 93 but he choses to do recon in the Marines! He leaves for boot camp Aug 28, 2007. My bro's best friend has made a career out of the marines and loves it! But it is very hard & stressful.
You may join as an officier and go to OBTC (officer basic training course) after bootcamp. My exhusband did this. He was not as smart as our son but he absolutely loved his MOS. He was in the army.
My uncle was in the navy for 4 yrs as well as my son's g/f. Neither of them liked it. The ship got to be very boring, they missed land. In the navy you're more likely to be deployed on your ship. Perhaps not into battle but out to sea for sure. Can you be away for 6 months or more at a time?
The air force is the most civilian like as far as MOS goes. My son's friend has a job in computers with his college degree and he goes to work M-F 9-5. He has top security clearance as he works on the nuke missles computer systems! Yikes! Same base as my son. My son chose a job that takes him out "in the field" 3 nights a week off the rest unless they have "training days". He loves it!
My bro in law was in for 8 yrs and he loved it too. He got out cuz his MOS was cancelled. He just didn't re-enlist. My sister loved the air force as the wife of an enlisted.
I can tell you this...out of all these branches...the Air Force boot camp personel treated us the BEST.

Each branch, whether it be US Marines, Navy, Army, Air force or Coast Guard has it's own particular purpose. None is better than the other. As far as who will see combat, I point to October 12, 200 with the USS COLE DDG-67 wasn't in combat yet she was attacked by terrorists and 17 men and women were killed and 39 others injured. The USAF flies into areas where terrorists could possibly attack...both the base and the aircraft.
If you're that afraid of being in combat, I suggest you get a job in McDonald's as a manager with your bachelor's degree (heck, you might even have to face a gun there!).
In ANY branch, you may be required to defend your command. As a logistics type in the Navy, I stood quarter deck watches armed. I was part of several of my ships' repel boarders and security teams. On my first ship, I was armed with an M-16 standing bow watch at the mouth of the Mekong River on a repair ship. I was sent TAD to a PBR base at the mouth of the Mekong River and was required to be armed. All military men and women are expected to be willing to do combat when the need arises. The military is NOT a 'civilian type job.' no matter what branch you join. You need to face reality.

It all depends on how you view your quality of life, and what you feel you need to be comfortable.
The Navy for instance has whats called "Hot bunks". Meaning, you share a bed with two other people and sleep in 8 hour shifts. No their recruiter wont tell you this lol! Good thing I'm friends with the other recruiters.
Air Force is less likely to be front lines combat, but that also depends on the job you take. The Air Force, *I know of cant say for the Navy* could possibly even help pay off your student loans from when you were getting your degree.
The Air Force in my opinion is the most civillian like because you arent spending most of your life on a boat. I dunno bout you, but I live on land and drive cars everyday ect. They do have port calls...and you get to visit lots of different places however.
I'm biased, being an Air Force dependant. However, I lived on a tropical island for 2 years, have moved around just enough to make me miss home AND remember why I left in the first place.
Its all quality of living, what are you comfortable with?

It depends on what job you get. With a degree you'll be an officer. I don't know Navy because I'm Air force. I know the Air Force will try and match your job to your degree unless its something like underwater basket weaving then you will more than likely be a maintenance officer.
In regards to your comment on the Air Force least likely to see combat. I see combat everyday. It depends on your job but in the Air Force Pilots are the ones that see the most combat and guess what they are all officers which is what you will be when you join. Not saying that you'll be a pilot the competition is high to be a fighter pilot.
So unless you want to spend alto of time on a boat then Air Force is better. We deploy less often and generally have better living conditions when we do.

So because you can’t find a job you are willing to go work for free. Good logic buddy, your degree is really paying off. Working for the government will pay you less then what you can make at local Wall mart sacking bags. And the bright side if someone injures you, you get better work comp then a US veteran.
Instead of going and fighting someone else’s war. Go and volunteer to work at any programming place. Tell them you will work their part time for the next six months for free. Learn everything you can and move!!!!

Both are good. But the living conditions of Enlisted Air Force are even better than navy Officers, so take that into consideration.

Join the Navy, you can probably get a job as an Intelligence Officer, which is great and it looks really good on a job application once you decide to leave the Service. You have to score reasonably well on ASVAB, but you can study for that so it will be easier. When you choose to leavce military service, jobs will be easier to obtain because they like former military men. They tend to be more disciplined and less likely to waste time
