Lord, no! They are just the sweetest dogs ever. They're like 150 lb kittens! Heck, I think the kittens are actually more likely to hurt me than a dane! LOL If you're looking for a protection dog, danes are not it. They're just giant love bugs. Try a mastiff breed. I'm still not afraid of them but they are certainly better at protection than a big ol' cuddly dane.

Not normally no. I have known some danes personally and they are sweet dogs, but one time I was walking a dog we had found (to see if we could find it's home) and a great dane almost pushed his way out under a fence to get at the dog I was walking. Had it come out any further than it had, I was well prepared to kick it in the head to keep it from attacking the small dog I had with me. Fortunately it didn't come to that. I think that's the only time I've been afraid of a dane. But like any other breed, improper socialization can lead to big issues.

Not really, I've know a few regular Danes and a few Swedish as well, but I'm not really sure how I would handle meeting a "great Dane". Is that like royalty? or are they just the local nobles?

Under normal circumstances, there is nothing to be afraid of in a Great Dane. I happen to have owned two of the exceptions to the normal circumstances. Both were males, and both would bite. The first one, I had put down after he bit me, because of the threat he posed to my 3 year old grandson. His original owner had died when he was a pup and no one did anything but feed him for three years following that. I got him as a three year old intact male. He was un-managable and had no desire to be trained or to submit to anyone's leadership other than his own.
The second one I have now. I have had him for two years and I got him as a two year old. He was kept in a crate far too many hours a day before I got him, so, he is too territorial. He , too, will bite and has done so three times that I know of. However, he has never broken the skin of anyone he has bitten and he only bit when his victims were reaching for something that he perceived as property that he should be protecting. His bark is far worse than his bite, but I still isolate him when people come to the house. He is a 155 pound intimidator, but I love him dearly. He even scared my husband when we first got him and we've had several other Danes before him.
Still, I have no fear of Great Danes. As with any dogs, you should only approach them cautiously if they are strangers to you and always ask their owners for permission before trying to touch or pet one.

I don't think anyone who has had experience with Great Danes is afraid of them. They are very big, but also very sweet. They seem to think they're lap dogs. I love Great Danes!

if I see a great dane I am definitely scared. I'm also scared if I see a terrier or chihuahua. I don't think everybody is like that though.

Nah, I love them and all big dogs! :D I own two Rhodesian Ridgeabcks which are said to have some Great Dane in their bloodline. Also they have the Greyhound, for speed; the Bulldog for biting and holding ability; the Collie, for slashing ability; the Pointer; and Airedale and Irish terriers, for coat color and scrappiness.
It is likely that the Mastiff, Bloodhound and Deerhound also contributed to the gene pool along the way

no I love dog's and a great Dane is a big baby anyway, so whats to be afraid of, because he's big? he does not know he is big and could hurt you.
as a matter of fact he is one of the gentlest dogs around.
