Is anyone else out there living in the mayhem of remodling? Does anyone else think that remodling stinks?

We are pushing out the wall in the kitchen to make it larger. We also have torjn down the old carport we had outside and are building a two car garrage/workshop combo in the sideyard. We are also redoing the living room. The plumbers are working on replacing the pipes so we only have a bucket. All of our kitchen stuff, pland food is shoved in a room that could pass for many people's small closets! Ack! Why my parents had to take it all on at once I really don't know!

We are doing a total house remodel. Luckily, we don't have to live there while the work is going on. However, as we are doing most of the work ourselves, we're there everyday.

Some things I have noted. 1) Mudding the drywall was fun -- for about the first hour. 2) I hate the smell of drywall mud and dust. Even when I'm NOT at the house, I still catch whiffs of that scent (maybe it's just my imagination at this point). 3) Everytime I think something is going to be an easy fix -- it's not. Sigh! For example, I went to replace the tab/shower fixtures in one bathroom and found that I have to actually put in a new part behind the wall. That means I get to take off some of the tile, break through the cement board, and then put everything back together again when I'm done. Deep sigh.

Most days I feel like things will never be done. However, it sure is a nice feeling when I get totally finished with one room and can close the door, knowing I don't have to worry about THAT room anymore!

Hey There!

I was just browsing around on Yahoo Answers and came across this question of yours.

I work with people who are remodeling ALL the time. Just do your best to stay relaxed and it's not like those makeover shows on tv where its all done in a day. Also having people help you that you can count on makes a world of difference. IKEA has people that work with them who do an amazing job and you can get a ton of great items that look expensive and unique but is very cost effective.

I’m an IKEA Regional Manager and was informed of a private website at my last regional managers meeting that ended up to be a promotion we’re doing.

This website is giving away several hundred $1,000 IKEA Giftcards for just putting in your zipcode. It’s a marketing campaign they are doing to see what areas of the country people are interested in IKEA!

You can’t go wrong… Just put in your zipcode and get a $1,000 IKEA Giftcard.

Heck, you could even get the FREE Giftcard and sell it on ebay and go buy stuff somewhere else with the money you just made!

Yeah, it stinks and takes a long time. But it's nice when it is all said and done. I remember walking on plank boards across the floor joists of my parent's kitchen for a couple of months when I was growing up. It was the main way in and out of the house and you had to make sure not to track in.

Just make sure if you do it, that you do it right. And don't get lazy. The longer you take, the longer you have to live in remodeling hell.

I had my kitchen remodeled last summer. It took 5 long weeks, and I was so happy that I could finally eat there again. But I completely agree with you that it stinks--I couldn't enter my kitchen at all for a week! The noise also got to me--I had exams the week they started (when they tore stuff down), and I could not concentrate at all. Plus, there are always some problems that need to be fixed after remodeling. But I love my kitchen now, and I am so glad that I got it re-done. What are you getting remodeled?

The dry wall dust is unbearable...the drafts drive me crazy...a kitchen in the garage? no thanks I'll eat out...next time? I'd like to say I'd never do it again but I know it's impossible, every time I look at something in my home I think of the possibilities ;)

I wish more people were doing it. Then I'd be working instead of sitting here answering questions. LOL
