I can play some video AVI files and some not... and some MPEG files and some not on WMP. Also when i try and review my movies in movie maker, the sounds plays but the screen is just black

You're probably missing a codec in which the video is encoded. For example, many downloaded movies are stored in DivX or XVID format (kind of like mp3 versus wma). To make them work, you need to download the correct codec, which your player will use to decode the information in the files and play it back for you. Install the codec pack from the link below (which contains all major codecs), and your videos should play fine.

I wouldn't try to play a movie file on the movie maker becuase it will automatically break it into clips.

its probably a codec problem
