I would like to know what "nada" means. If at all possible, I'd also like to know what the different translations are in different countries (i.e. Mexico vs. Spain). Are there any contexts in which it changes its literal translation?

As told by everyone here, "nada" means "nothing".

It can also be used instead of "de nada", which means "you are welcome" (as a response to thank you). Sometimes in Spain they only say "nada" meaning "de nada" (it was nothing, don't mention it, etc.).

The other meaning would be a conjugation of the verb swimming (nadar), as other people have said.
It could be the present tense for he/she/it:
Él nada = He swims
Or the imperative:
¡Nada! (tú) = Swim! (you).

I don't know of any other meanings in different contexts or countries.

Edit-
I remembered another one:
In Spain they sometimes say "Nada" or "Pues, nada" at the beginning of a sentence. It's like saying "Well...", "Well then"...
Maybe that's what you've heard.

Nada means "nothing" in Mexico, Spain, Perú, etc.
Also "nada" is the conjugated verb of "nadar" that means "swim".

Example: Yo no quiero nada = I don't want nothing.
Él nada como pez en el agua. = He swims like a
fish in the sea.

Now, yes, there are differences between the countries, like also in english between USA and England for example.

Most differences are in the vocabulary and the use of some verbs.

But you understand according to the context.

Good luck.

Nada is nothing , but there is also a verb "nadar" to swim, so if you say nada is equal to an imperative swim!

"Nada" means nothing.
"Nadie" means nobody

But I don't think there are any contexts in which the meaning of the word "nada" changes.

It could be either "Nothing" or "Anything"

As ahcgr32 said the meaning depends on the context.
