My fiance is one of those guys who has everything so I was not planning on getting him a gift. Well, yesterday I was at the Renaissance faire and ended up getting a "Coat of Arms" along with the family history of his name which will look very nice on the wall. I thought that since it will soon be my name, that it would be a nice and unusual gift and a nice thing to have at the start of our new lives. What do you all think about that? Would it be ok?

Some of you are not hearing me. He literally has everything. He collects antique jewelry that is hundreds of years old. His house is filled with antiques and he is not lacking for clothes. I cannot just go into a store and pick out some jewelry or household item. For xmas I had a star named for him(yeah, I know it's not all real) but he loved it because it was a gesture he had not thought of. I thought this was of a similar nature and was something he does not have.

He's not into sporting goods. He's also a working musician and gets tickets to more concerts than he can attend. That's why this is so hard for me and I was going to skip a gift altogether.

I think the coat of arms sounds like a wonderful, unique gift. Even if he didn't have everything, sometimes something unusual is just fun and really shows the thought that was put behind it.
I was just married a week ago and my husband and I gave our parents "Family Established" Plaques with their wedding dates... not the normal handkercheifs but something a little different.

No offense but it's a stupid gift.
It's one of those generic no thought gifts. It's not like the person who made it really knows his family history, or is even close. It's not special to him, since it works for you too. It's like you are giving yourself a gift.
Give him something unique, something that he can treasure. Something he knows you worked hard to find and show you really know the real him.

I think that idea is perfect...and if it werent for the fact that my fiance has such a unique and different last name (so that I could never possibly find such a plaque) I just might have to steal it from you!!!
Congrats on the wedding and on thinking of such a clever gift!!!

I think it's perfect, and a great way to symbolize the start of your lives together. You could also have a small plaque engraved (at a trophy store) that says "_______ family, established 'month, day, 2007" Frame the 2 together. I think it's great!

That is not an appropiate groom gift. That is a house gift, men don;t care about wall decorations. Please don't get that.
No clothes either.
Traditionall groom gifts are watches, books, or something of his interest... does he golf? surf? is into cars? Look for something that means something to HIM.
Good luck

I think its a good idea being that he seems to like that sort of gift & as always your first action is usually the best one. Who knows your groom then you

I think that it really depends on your fiance but if you believe he will enjoy it then I think it is a very wonderful gift my fiance wouldn't be interested but I would certainly think many men would be and would think it is very nice and very appropriate.

I don't think what you got was very accurate, but he might like it, I don't know. I think what you should get him instead is tickets to a concert. The guy who has everything probably doesn't have those.

Make a scrap book about things that you did together since you met: your special moments, your vacations, etc.
Get him a nice book of romantic poems and have his name engraved on the cover.
