some people say its partition magic, some say acronis, i can't decide. i need a software which can merge or divide my partitions without losing any data. also i run a win xp pro with sp2. so,which is the best software?

Partition Magic 8 has worked for me all the time and has never failed.

The only issue I had is at 1 point it couldn't detect partitions yet this issue was fixed by replacing the IDE cables and running scandisk.


Yes, IDE cables will most likely stop functioning before your hard drives.

GParted is probably the best one
you can run it off of a live cd so that none of your drives are mounted. you can change the drive type, resize, add, subtract, anyhting you would want to do and it is all in an easy to use GUI.

you can also use it through Ubuntu linux which will add for an easier use
