First, privatization of certain non-combat related functions that could be outsourced... was something started by Al Gore during the Clinton Administration... so instead of using low-ranking military folk who get paid pennies and are obligated to work 24/7 as called upon, the military now has to hire out some of these services... and pay over-contract fees... and go to the expense of bidding the jobs and awarding the contracts... which just creates more paper.. Smart, huh? Another typical Gore move...
Second, the military cannot possibly staff hospitals during a time of peace the way they need to do during a time of war. If you owned an ice cream factory, wouldn't you hire on more help for the summer months? Could you call it responsible fiscal administration if you chose to keep all those workers on during the cold winter months, because summer's coming next year too? Or, would you downsize as needed??
Of course, you'd downsize when the need was over. That's what the VA hospitals and medical facilities do. Then, when
we're at war, they get hit with so many injuries, there's no way they have space, manpower, or supplies to respond perfectly in every situation.
Duh.. more liberal thinking... why does it have to be somebody's fault? Can't it possibly be that for years we have existed in an environment where there weren't many combat related injuries, so they downsized and some of their under-used facilities fell into disrepair? What else was supposed to happen, with the Dem's always balking at funding Defense??

Bush, for not paying attention to it.
People are making a big deal out of this most recent scandal involving the Veteran's hospitals, but 60 Minutes did a story over a year ago about how our soldiers were getting the best medical care after being injured, only to get back home and not be able to get anything because the're paperwork was held up for a year.
For someone who uses the troops to benefit his friends, he should have made damned sure that they were getting the best care, and like everything else, Bush had no follow through and never checked. There's a lot of blame to go around (the Republican Congress didn't care either), but it should all land squarely on his shoulders for his inactivity. He could have led the Republican Congress and gotten it fixed, but he couldn't be bothered.
Story of his presidency. No leadership.

All the Senators, All the congressmen, All the Presidents and All the VA administrators who have been in office for the past 30 or 40 years. The VA's plan has always been to use them, and dump them. It ain't gonna stop until we have leaders who have been in the shoes of those who have fought wars and knows what its like to go through the VA red tape system.

There isn't a health care scandal. There was an apartment building across the street from a hospital in deteriorating condition.
Liberals want so badly to smear America that they'll turn it into a scandal on their own. The service members in the building for the most part don't care.

I am thinking fault is less important than fixing the problems. There have been complaints about the VA system for many years now and they have gone largely ignored by those in power. This includes both Republican and Democratic administrations. That is one of problems with our society we are always looking for who to blame rather than saying blame is less important than correcting the underlying issues.

It isn't the President's fault for sure. The people working there and those who oversee the hospital. There are VA hospitals all over the country and they are wonderful and I've actually heard patients at this bad hospital who said they had excellent care there.

Certainly not George W. Bush.
He can't be blamed for anything.
They want to sit there and pretend like they have been fully funding the veterans administration and army hospitals.
Meanwhile they have been overloading the system, and cutting funding wherever possible, even if it means our brave fighting men and women have to exist in squalid hellholes.
