Hold a metal spoon under the tap, and rinse your hands in the water running off it. Works for me!

Onions (and garlic, and hot peppers) have oils in them that absorb really quickly into your pores. That's why the odor (and, in the case of hot peppers, the hotness) can linger for a couple of days.
The lemon juice thing will work, to an extent. They also manufacture deodorizing hand soaps that come in "pump" bottles. But really, the only thing that will completely remove the smell is time.

Before cutting the onion, try rubbing oil (i.e. olive) on your hands to create a barrier. I've heard that rubbing your hands on the walls of the sink help to get the smell off. Otherwise, wash good with soap and put lotion on afterwards. hope that helps!

if you have a large stainless steel spoon or something like that, wash you hands with it, sounds funny but pretend it is a bar of soap and it should take the smell away. if you frequently run into this problem you may want to invest in this. check out the link.

Get a spoon out of your utensil drawer and rub it while holding your hands under running water. Works for garlic too.

Before washing it... I rub my hands on the stainless steel faucet and tap while the water is running.
Then I clean it, and the kitchen after cooking.

Stainless steel. You can use a stainless steel spoon, under running water while washing your hands. They sell special blocks of stainless steel, but a spoon works just as well.
