See a lawyer. I think that if you leave your computer with your ID saved in yahoo! for example, someone can easily use your e-mail to send abusive or pornographic e-mails. The very first thing you should do is see a lawyer - I think they would know how vulnerable you are in this situation. My first instinct was to tell you to change your password or make sure your ID is not being saved in yahoo. But then I thought, if you don't change anything and you immediately inform the police what you are doing - leaving everything as it is - then they can perhaps trace the e-mails to dates and times and knowing where you ISP is (at your computer, in your house), they could find out who was home at that time and perhaps trap that person.
You think one of your mates is sending mail using your computer? Would he or she be sending abusive mail? Keep quiet, protect yourself (or a least inform yourself) legally and make sure the police can catch the guilty party.
Then the guilty party can explain they 'really didn't mean anything by it' - let them do that - but at least it won't be your neck on the chopping block.
Good luck!

If you haven't done anything wrong then why are you so freaked out?
Chill. They warned you because they just want you to stop. They don't want to take the time to trace the ISP (that is a lot of needless gruntwork) but they will if you (or whoever) doesn't stop sending abusive emails. If it wasn't you then it wasn't you. Stop letting people use your computer.
As for where the ISP is found... it's a long process and you aren't going to understand unless you've taken some basic computer programming classes. Just realize that everything you do online can be traced back to your computer.

Hey dude, if you didn't do anything wrong, why worry? I'm a guy from Singapore and I recently read this article through the papers.
It happens to a female here where she didn't post any "Bomb threats" into the net yet police check out the post and managed to trace her IP address. She is innocent but police confiscated her notebook and desktop to check on it and since she didn't send it, they can't find anything suspecious. It took the police about 1 year to find the real culprit, who taps into the female's wireless network to send the bomb threat.
Could it be because you're using a wireless router and did not set any security to it? Someone could simply steal your connection to harress others. I thinks ISP is something like IP address. Since you didn't do anything wrong, get the police to examine all the computers that you had at home. They need evidence to get you.

Chill.
Don't be so worried now, if you know you haven't done anything, you are not guilty of any charges pressed on you. Talk to your friends about this, tell your best friend what you're feeling now. Having their support will definitely boost your spirits and calm you down.
Regarding your case of sending "abusive" mails to other people, there are many possibilities of someone using your account. I don't think the police will be able to press charges on you based on the ISP and the email account alone. If you know you didn't do it, you are not guilty.
Calm down and I wish you all the best for this case, you'll be fine =)

-Yes, your IP address is your Internet protocol address.. It is individual much like a phone number.. You could have entered a site and have someone who has cloaked behind your address and is sub-using your computer (kind of like phone forwarding...) Your friends could be accessing your account, but they would need to use your password.. If you are going to naughty sites, this is common.. They can even store child porn on your computer and you could be charged with this.. Keeping it clean and having a firewall is the best thing to do... I would be cautious if I were you, but there are hackers who can trace where and when something was sent to see if you have a spy on your computer... Good luck.. Also, don't answer anyone's emails that you don't know and I most certainly would not download anything unnecessary...

ok, try to relax, you'll get nowhere by panicking. now, with the type of technology nowadays, i wouldnt doubt they can trace it. ISP is the number your computer gives when it connects to anything on the internet. now, i could give you a bunch of technical jargon about how to get your isp #, but i prefer to just go to wikipedia.com and, not logged in, try to edit a page, any page. it'll say you can edit it, but they'll keep your isp # for reference. then just see what the number is! it'll look like something along the lines of 34.6366.5643.4698. good luck! and dont allow anyone else to get on your computer anymore

Your not in jail so you have nothing to worry about. I've been in trouble quite a bit. Not so much anymore, but I have learned that if the cops want to question you and make threats to you, no matter how smallor big they may be, they don't have a damn thing on you. When the cops have anything against you and can prove it, your in jail and waiting for court and they do not talk to you. And if they ask you to come in for questioning, DON'T. And if your arrested and questioned say NOTHING AT ALL. AND YOU WANT A LAWYER. Then they have to leave you alone and can't ask you anything once you say you want a lawyer.

There is a possibility that call was not from police at all. Be careful and don't give away any information on phone. you sound like a positive school boy, no need to be worried at all. If you wanted, you may go to police department and discuss this issue.
