We are thinking of getting rid of one of the two cats that are sisters and I was wondering if it is a bad idea to seprate them since they have been together since birth. What is your opnion??

They will both miss each other for about 6 months after separation, but they will learn to get over it. Normally one would pass away before the other one, so they would end up experiencing this sooner or later. I figure it's easier on them while they are young.

Why are you getting rid of them? If they were together since birth and close, I wouldn't do it. If they could care less about each other you could try it, BUT, just because they don't get along doesn't mean the one would not miss the other one's company. OR, see if you can find a home for both. OR, turn them into a not-for-profit no-kill shelter and ask that they find a home for them together and then you can get just one cat.

We had a brother and sister cat that played together all the time,the brother died of Feline Bladder disease.She was really depressed for a while,now she hates all our other cats and attacks them whenever she sees them.She's still nice to us,though.

I still have a sister cat, when her siblings come around, she doesn't even seem to recognize them anymore. Cats aren't the pack animals that dogs are. They'll be okay.

cats can suffer quite bad depression if seperated from their siblings that they have been with all their lives. our male siames stopped eating for a week after his sister left.

they will have to learn to live apart anyway...be prepared for sleepless nights and lots of crying...
