My husband took my 2 siamese cats to the vet today b/c of black speckly almost looks like dirt under the chin. I thought maybe it was flea poop or some kind of bug. The vet said it was cat acne and it wasnt fleas or bugs....just acne. Has anyone ever heard of this? Ive never heard of it and was wondering if I should get a 2nd opinion. Thanks.

My kitten had the same spots under her chin. She kept on rubbing it against my carpets and furniture.I took her to my vet and he also diagnosed feline acne. He gave me a ointment which helped and told me to wash her bowls daily. That is how your cats infected each other. The ointment worked and she not bothered by it anymore. Hope my advise helps

Yes... that is cat acne. A cat I had a long time ago had it. The best cure is to change the cat's eating dish to a stainless steel one. Plastic and ceramic dishes "hide" bacteria (if not cleaned fastidiuosly every serving) which get on the cat's chin and mouth.

Yes, your cat has acne. Pure and simple a case of kitty acne. You don't need another opinion. I hate to tell you this, but it really is common. I would take care of the acne though as it can get worse and you can get bigger pimples that bleed. I used to put alchol on my cat's chin to try and dry out the acne. Of course there is clearsil, it seems to work a bit.

The vet is right. It can come from plastic dishes or sometimes stress or excessive grooming (possibly from fleas) or just for no reason at all.

You can use antibiotics if real bad or if not you can use Benzole Perozide wash like Oxy Wash or Clearacil pads to keep clean.

But sometimes it just goes away as mysteriously as it started?

Yeah, I have heard of that. My cat gets that too. They actually sell an ointment for "kitty acne". I believe you can buy it in pet stores. Or maybe check online. It is more common then you think and it goes away. Funny though huh?

Nah, it's probably acne. It's fairly common.

It's typically caused by the slobber they leave behind on the rim of their food bowls. It's most frequent with plastic bowls; if you use metal or glass it's not such a problem, especially if you clean them frequently.

I have two cats, one of whom is a slobberer. When Poppy started eating out of Sophie's bowl, Sophie got acne.

I treated it myself by just continually scraping it off. My vet said you could also clean it with water or even a bit of anti-bacterial soap - just a bit. But Sophies went away just by scraping and by keeping her bowl cleaner.

Yes, I've heard of this and it has happened to my cats. It happens if they eat out of plastic or ceramic dishes on a regular basis. Now mine only eat off paper plates or metal bowls.
