I was getting my hair relaxed professionally, but then I tried retouching it at home myself. I only applied it to the new growth, which felt fine. But the hair that had already been relaxed felt awful when I neutralized.
Are there different brand or types of relaxers that react badly when used together?

YES! They Do, You Should Check To See What Type Of Relaxer The Salon Is Using. If It Is A Sodium Hydroxide (LYE) Type Relaxer, Other Types Of Relaxers Can Cause Severe Damage/Breakage If You Get The Other Relaxer On The Same Hair. As A Rule, There Are Four Types Of Relaxers, Sodium Hydroxide (Used By Most Salons)/Lithium, Magnesium Or Guanidine/( Safer, But Still Can't Use Other Relaxers) Ammonium Thiosulfate And DiAmmoniun DiThiosulfate (Best Balance Of Safety And Effectiveness) And Ammoniun Bisulfite/Bisulfate (Very Safe But, May Not Compleatly Relax All Hair Types And Hair May Slowly Revert- "ReCurl" Over Time)

The relaxer must came in contact of the rest of your hair. I've use different relaxer on the new growth all of the time, and never had that problem before.

What ever you get done in the salon, then you should try to use that some brand. I would not advise to mix them because I was getting Motions in the salon and I tried to a Hawiian Silky one at home and all of my hair came out! I mean all of it.

At this point now that your hair felt awful, then you should go to the salon and get a deep condition and also tell them what you did at home. Because if you dont you could suffer in the end.

It's always best to use the same brand relaxer until the first one grows out. Some may have, like you said, strange reactions when mixed together.
