I have a coworker who always talks about her kids, it's all she ever talks about. Then if I have something to say about my kid, she has to top it, try to show me up. And it's not just me it's everyone. Another co-worker came back to work from maternity leave and was showing people pictures of the new baby and the other woman butts in to show pictures of her kids (who are 4 and 6..not new babies) And on top of it, her kids are bratty little snots because she spoils them and tells them how great they are.

So how do you tastefully tell someone that you don't want to hear about the kids anymore? And I don't want to be rude so please don't reply with anything rotten or stupid.

Gee , does she have twin cause I think she might be related to my coworker ! Sadly, clods like this rarely if ever improve. I doubt short of insulting her if you could stop her behavior.

Perhaps laugh about her ( behind her back) with the other ladies in the office I'm sure they have had enough of her too. Think up a funny nick name for her ... the one in my office is nicked named "BIG SHOW" cause she's fat and brags non stop about her kids, house, husband ,whatever. Anyhow , now I don't get nearly as angry at her.

There is no nice way to tell someone to be quiet about their kids. Those are her pride and joy and can do no wrong. You are either going to have to walk away..politely or just come right out and tell her.....look I get paid to work not hear about your kids all day. Then she will get the picture. She may not have much to say to you afterwards, but you won't have to hear about her pickneys anymore!!

Aloha from Down Unda!

It's NOT 'rotten or stupid' to have an opinion. Simply show a copy of the question to her & let her know that you are not happy with the subject of the children dominating the relationship.

The disolution of the relationship can be accomplished as easily.

Don't subject yourself to torment.

Don't be afraid of being 'robust and sturdy', also the definition of 'rude'!

Best wishes -

You say, "How interesting" in a tone that conveys that the conversation is anything but interesting, and change the subject. Do this as many times as is necessary to drive the point home. A pained smile helps.

If this person is truly clueless and still doesn't get it, you can rely on, "Please excuse me, I have work to do."

Don't be rude but you can always change the topic of your discussions. NEVER be rude with anybody.
