Francis Scott Key, he was a lawyer, and also did poetry.

Although it was written as early as 1814, it wasn't the national anthem until many years later.

Ever heard of Ripley's Believe It or Not?
One of his cartoons mentioned that there was no national anthem, and it became the national anthem in 1931, over 100 years after it was written.

How old are you? If you're not American this is excusable but your typing and the time of day this was posted make me think you're American. When I was 6 I learned that our National Anthem was written by Francis Scott Key. He was a prisoner on an British ship during the War of 1812 and wrote the words to The Star Spangled Banner as he watched the flag flying over a fort on the shore.

I'm actually not exactly sure what fort it was or precisely what year it was (The War of 1812 started in 1812 but lasted for a few years after that). But there are encyclopedias in your library (not to mention google) to help you there.
