That would only happen in a Unitarian church. The others are not at all interested in getting at the truth.

Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 speaks about how there is a time to every purpose under Heaven. The "lectures" we receive at times are to warn us about fallacies in our spiritual lives that would seek to seperate us from God's grace through sin. Jesus once told Peter, "Simon, Simon. The DEVIL desireth to have you that he may sift you as wheat." This "lecture" was to warn the future head of the Church (Peter) that Satan would NEVER give up trying to tear down the establishment from WITHIN (individuals leaving through sin/hardened hearts against the truth and etc.). There are times for discussion to increase our knowledge, but there are also times of CHASTISEMENT for our PEACE.

The point of church is to worship Jesus as a body of believers. Not to discuss with or listen to a preacher.

i think so.
there is a group of people in our town that are doing just that. they were just featured in the paper last month. they are NOT all believers, and meet informally at this dude's house just to talk about religion. they bring food and meet early sat nite, so that if they have plans later they can still do whatever. they call it catalyst and one of the two founders says he's agnostic. seems interesting, but i'm kinda chicken to go.

no because it is lead by a person of God's appointment and it should be a lecture. The Word should always be sharp and continue to mold the "hearers" so they can change.

my experience with church is there should be a lot more teaching of sharing love/fellowship to get back to father. It seems to me to be full of judgement, I recently attended my daughters church with her and the paster spoke of how wrong other religions are, how terrible it is for people to be married mutiple times, The christian religion should be happy to share information not shove, and stop judging. share love/fellowship, that really is all that matters.

I think so. I learned more and got more to think about in my discussion oriented philosophy 101 class than in all my childhood years of listening to sermons.
