Christians say, "Fellowship and edification."

I say, "Brainwashing is more effective with peer pressure added into the mix."

Going to a church is a personal choice. It is a good place to socialize with people that have the same beliefs, but not required. I feel that the "temple of God" is within you. You can be very religous without going to church. But that's just my belief.

The "point of church" is to come together and worship "in one mind and one accord" as the Scripture teaches, meaning that we are there to receive instruction, chastisement, correction, uplifting, revival, whatever is deemed necessary by God to help keep our eyes on the high calling of God.

Going to church is a very social activity, it allows believers to realize that they are in a community that cares for them and share their values.

From here, I will let personal bigotries about the existence of God or lackthereof set in.

As far as I can tell it reinforces the belief system by having everyone think alike. I have no problem with like minded individuals having fellowship with other members who want to be there. What I don't like is being approached and condemned for not being like them.

it reinforces your faith. it gives you a sanctuary where people who feel the same way you do can be at peace with one another.
kinda like how it is here with all the atheists. from what i can see, all the atheists here seam to enjoy coming here and communicating (even at times it seams like they are the majority)... same with church.

i personally, am someone of faith. and i would like to find a religion that corresponds with my beliefs. i have been looking though many different religions, and i cant find one.
i know i dont need one... but i would like one... just to feel that i am a part of something (spiritual) and to know im not the only one... lol. maybe its an insecurity thing.... but the way i see it.. everyone, yes EVERYONE, needs reinforcement at one point or another... or in one way or another... and to me thats just human nature.

Faith is one of those 'unprovables ' in life, so sometimes you feel doubtful. When attending church you surround yourself with others who believe as you do and thus strengthen your own faith.
Also, you can sing as loudly and badly as possible and others will love and accept you anyway!

Romans 12:3-8

3For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. 4Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his[b]faith. 7If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; 8if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

Ephesians 4:2-4

2Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope when you were called—

There are many purposes of the Church...including, learning, fellowship, charity, and not least of all building one another up. The Church is not a building, it is not a pastor, it is not a sunday school teacher. It is the worldwide community of believers, that as a part of the body of Christ is responsible for supporting one another through prayer, service, and gifts...

I don't go as regularly as I'd like, but Church keeps you in the word, so to speak. It renews you. For instance, I never stop believing, but going to church revitalizes what I already believe. It is a time also to praise and worship God. He is so worthy.
