Most of the time the dentist recommends for you to have both done at the same time for your convenience and cost effectiveness. Most patients are put under sedation at an ORAL SURGEONS office to remove the teeth. In everyone I have known once one wisdom tooth started causing problems it wasn't long until the other one did the same. There are a lot of nerves surrounding the wisdom tooth and it isn't just a run of the mill dentist visit for most. There are x-rays, and several visits to the dentist. If both are done at the same time, you will save money and time in the long run. You are only off work for one time, only one visit for x-rays, only one charge for sedation and sugery, and only one recovery period of pain. If you look at it this way, you will realize that most dentist don't make that much more for having you do both at one time. Check with your dentist and find out how much it will cost to have the one tooth done and multiply that by two, then find out how much he will charge to do both at one time. If the cost isn't an issue for you and you don't mind the potential for going through the pain twice, opt to have them done at seperate times, you may get lucky and be one of the few who never has trouble with the other tooth.

if you had a problem with the other tooth you may end up having a problem with that tooth, wisdom teeth are very hard to keep clean and a lot of people have them removed to avoid future problems, if you have e straight teeth and not enough room in your mouth that may another reason to have them removed because they will push against the other teeth and make them crooked

They always want to do more than you need. I had one out recently and the oral surgeon suggested the same thing. I don't think it's a good idea to remove a healthy tooth just for convenience sake. If it isn't bothering you then tell your doctor no.
